You are so right Patches. That is the part that I don't want to ever forget. I don't want to FEEL it anymore but I never want to forget how much smoking stole from my life and how trapped I was...because this is what made "My desire to quit" stronger than "My desire to smoke". Thanks for sharing! Patches, I was actully a little taken back 2weeks ago, when the freedom hit me. What a awsome feeling, not to have to stop and smoke.. It is a cold day in NC. It got me thinking about going outside smoking when it is super cold. Good news I don't have too. ;p Grace My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 66 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,331 Amount Saved: $264 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 17 Mins: 42 Seconds: 50

Great post! I always liked the screen names 'Ex-slave' and 'Breaking Free' and 'Free'! The names alone speak volumes! Thank you. Ever notice how our addiction is like slavery? I was a slave to my addiction. My addiction or nicodemon or whatever you want to call it used to tell me when I had to smoke. Even if it was in the middle of a good movie or good conversation or even if it was freezing cold outside or pouring rain. I had to step outside and smoke when my addiction told me to....like a slave. The worst was when it was very very windy outside..I hated having to go out there to smoke. When I had a scheduled meeting at work I would be sure to schedule smoking time before the meeting started. I did the same thing before grocery shopping or before going into any public building where I could not smoke. Oh, and if someone scheduled a sudden meeting I would kinda freak out thinking that I may not get to feed my addiction so I would run outside and smoke and go into the meeting late. Have you reached the point in your quit yet where you noticed that you were no longer a slave and were FREE again. I realized this sometime in week 2-4 where I suddenly had this overwhelming feeling of total Freedom. It was a wonderful feeling. I can totaly relate to the slavery issue. If my master called, I would stop anything at anytime to make him happy. I remember during my last quit the "WOW, I'm FREE feeling". I'm sure I'll be feeling it again real soon. Free to take a flight without waiting till the last minute to walk into the terminal or have some NRT ready. Free to not worry if I have enough cash with me incase I need more smokes Free to just walk out of the house, not spend 10 min making sure I had my pack, a back up pack, a lighter, a back up lighter.... Free to get close to someone without fear of stinking Free to enjoy an event without having to sneak away for some "fresh air" Let Freedom ring! August
