I have been keeping bottles of water in the fridge easy to grab .. and the cold water does help. I kept little snacks handy, figure a few lbs.. and then work on that. i found eating something, even if a teaspoon of peanut butter every couple hrs. helps with the cravings. If you get to hungry the cravings are worse and come back more often. I also found cinnamon gummi bears or cinnamon hard candy to help.. kind of a burst of flavor 9and i like cinnamon. Using a natural product from natra bio Stop It smoking bought it at super supplements. also available on line. they also have little cinnamon tooth picks (tea tree oil) very in expensive bough a pkg of those today, they also help with bacteria in the mouth. Hang in there dawghouse My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/8/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 8 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 137 Amount Saved: $14.4 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 2 Mins: 42 Seconds: 27

Hey Shaila, hope I did not offend you eariler. I read in a book that you can not feed the craving enough. So there is not enough chocolate in the world to satisfy. however I have used food as reward. I kept track of when my craving came. And also when I ate. So when I got a desire I thought was this to smoke or am I really hungry. If it was during a craving time I did something else.... Any thing, to keep from smoking. or eating..... You said you were determined not to gain weight. Not sayin you will but I DON'T Want you to set yourself up to fail. Some people gain weight while they are quiting get mad and start smoking again. I feel if we can stop smoking we CAN do anything. Even lose a few pounds. just me but I am allowing my self a 10 pd limit over the next month. Shaila please have confindence in yourself. You can do this. You are beautiful, and YOU are worthy of this. I will keep you in my thoughts. Please let me know how it is going. A food and craving dairy might help. You have poeple on here who care a great deal. grace

Hi Shaila, The need for smoking feels exactly as hunger. When I had that I took icecold water and that helped me every time. The first few days the water came out off my ears but that was a good thing...lol. I didn't gain weight that way. Instead of eating...drink some water. Succes on your quit. The first day of my quit I put a piece of bread on either side of the refrigerator and ate the whole thing. All of it. The second day of my quit I helped McDonalds go from 8 Billion served to over 10 Billion served.... !!! I ate like a horse, (actually a herd of horses) when I first quit. Hard candies slowed me down and then..... It just slacked off by itself. I gained about 20 pounds but it's almost gone now. I wouldn't worry too much about the urge to eat - go ahead and do it but get active to counteract it. Congrats on the quits guys! If it were me I wouldn't worry to much about a temporary weight gain when you quit. I put on abot 20 pounds but it's gone now. My body went through and adjustment phase but it seems to have stabilized now. I feel good. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Shaila, Almost all smokers notice this. You may tend to eat more than you used to. Your body's absorption of food is improved as well, so you will gain more nourishment even if you don't eat more. How long will this last? The first few weeks after quitting. Tips to help: Try low calorie snacks or beverages. If you have a symptom that persists or seems worse than you expected, you should immediately consult a doctor. Its possible that your smoking has been masking symptoms of some illness, and when you stop smoking the symptoms abruptly become noticeable.
