I have been smoking for the last year and a half . I started smoking right after I have given birth , with one or two cigarettes a day . It was my husband who adviced me to smoke first when i had constipation right after delivery , now after one year and a half i started to feel addicted , me i am a free bird and quite independent . it is the one quality that every one recognize in me so clearly . Soo , when i started feeling that the habbit is taking me places i don't want to go at times i don't want to !! like in the middle of work when i have to go out of the office two floors a way from my office , what a waste of time , i really felt like an addict . Also now I smoke 5 cigarettes and at days 7!! so rate is increasing and when i am having a good debate watch out!! what i am using to quit is the following : green tea (no sugar) , don't ask me why i just feel it helps a lot with nicotine withdrawal lighting scented candles and lolly pops! today is my first day , i feel quite strong a bout making it through . please pray for me and send me some inspirational messages ...

to the SSC. Congrats on your decision to quit smoking. Knowledge is power, so get prepared. Get prepared for your mind to deal with emotions without the mask of a drug. Know that the nicotine in cigarettes has caused you to be physically addicted. Take comfort in knowing the physical withdrawal will stop approximately 72 hours if you can resist nicotine products. Be fully aware that your life routine will have to be experienced without smoking cigarettes for you to be quit. So throw them away. Do not save any. What is your routine? When do you smoke? Make a list of your triggers (when you would normally smoke). It is better to think about all of these things ahead of time so that you can go into battle prepared. Replace your bad habit (smoking) with good habits. Read about healthy ways to deal with stress/emotions and start practicing your new coping skills. Get yourself ready physically by walking more, take in more fluids, get plenty of rest and avoid becoming overtired. Tell people around you that youre going to quit. Get yourself a Quit Buddy who will be there to provide you personal quit-smoking help and support. Fight the urge to protect yourself from looking silly if you dont make it all the way. Believe in yourself from the very beginning. Make it come true. If you dont make it this time, what matters is that you get back up and try again. Also, dont forget to make rewards a part of your plan. Quitting takes a lot of work, so you want to make sure you give yourself credit along the way. Keep a list of rewards you look forward to - it will help keep you motivated. Watch out for alcohol, social situations, other smokers, weight gain, and bad moods/depression. These things can make you fall off the Quit Wagon. Like Ive said be prepared for these things. Weve quit. You can too. Well be here to support you if you need us. I look forward to celebrating your milestones with you. Silly Habit - I too smoke very little at first but as time went on smoked more and more. I am proud of you for quitting today. Be sure and do the quit program notebook on the left and have your "coping with stress" mechinisms in place. Green tea sounds good - get some excercise outdoors, drink lots of cold water - and yum! lollypops! You can do this! Unfortunately this isn't a habit, like biting your nails or saying a certain #%&*& when you get upset. It's an addiction, just like crack or heroin. It doesn't matter how many you smoke...if you can't control it or stop it, then you are an addict like the rest of us. But you do have a great attitude and that will see you a long way! Be sure to work the program tools over on the left...they will help you organize your quit and understand your coping mechanisms. Good luck!
