How is heck-week?

Hate to do it, but I'm going to be honest.. Heck week was pure heck for me. REALLY GROUCHY, MEAN, WHINEY!! Its in the posts here somewhere. I had PMS and hell week all in the same week.. not pretty at all ;-). The good news is that it passed.. it took a week but it passed. A very important thing happened to me that week. Because of this forum, I documented how truly aweful I felt. After going through it and seeing it in writing, it is one of the major reasons that I have stuck with N.O.P.E. (not one puff ever). I don't ever want to go through it again, and think I will always remember just how miserable I felt. So, if it happens to you, write about it here.. yell it on the mountain.. because for me, it is truly the catalyst for the rest of my quit. I'm not going to do it again, no way no how. I'm done. So, if it does turn into your hell week, use it, remember it, and know that we will be here for you. Hey Parola - you're doing great. Now you've just got to rinse and repeat. In other words, keep doing what got you through to now. Notice what gives you good feelings, whether it's a thought, an activity, a snack. And replace that for the craves and the lows and the negative thinking. Really, no one can predict precisely what you have in front of you, but whatever it is you can handle. Believe in this. The more you do, the sooner you'll get to where you want to be. Take care and keep us posted. life or death, live or die. there is only do, there is no try. choice puts the free in freedom. no hurries - no worries. keep on keepin' on - fish My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/21/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 106 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,199 Amount Saved: $530 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 18 Mins: 56 Seconds: 58

Parola.. Everyone's quit is different. For me Heck week wasn't a whole lot different than Hell week except for the fact that I had 7 days under my belt and my confidence was beginning to grow. Keep taking your quit one day at a time. Ride out the tough times and don't give in to the temptation to smoke. As time goes on, it will get so much easier. Unfortunately, most of us have to struggle for a while before we reach this point. Keep going, you will get there. It's OK folks, hell/heck weeks do not last forever. No matter how long they seem, they do eventually end. You get through them one step at a time, one crave at a time. You just keep trying all the things in your arsenal of coping techniques and before you reach the bottom, you are out of the war zone. Then comes the mental part of the fight and you need to start preparing yourself to say, " No thanks, I don't smoke" "No way Junkie" "They are out of my life" "NOPE" "Get away from me". Said in the appropriate tone of voice to self, junkie/demon man, or well meaning friends. Find what works for you and use it. Your on your way and doing well, just keep to the path. Hi, Parola. Forgetfulness is very common. It will ease off over the next few weeks. In the meantime, just try to keep double-checking yourself on important things (stove turned off, etc.). You might want to start trying re-exposing yourself. Begin with safe, non-smoking situations. Still should stay away from bars, bowling alley's, other smoking situations. No sense taking it too fast. One of the biggest threats you will face is over-confidence. Especially over-confidence fueled by junkie thoughts. Just tread carefully and keep your eyes open. Congratulations on 9 days quit, Parola. You're doing great. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 318 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,370 Amount Saved: $1208.4 Life Gained: Days: 59 Hrs: 9 Mins: 12 Seconds: 17
