Hey Andrew50, Its Ok - Habits are hard to break. You are still here and still wanting to quit. So dont beat your self up. Take a deep breath, and start again. Do you want to quit more than you want to smoke? It took me several attempts, before I got it right, but I will not quit quitting until I get it right. Andrew, I'm sorry to hear of your "slip" but I'm sure you know that it is still possible to quit, despite a slip or relapse. The important thing now is to remember N.O.P.E. You cannot quit successfully and still smoke. Period. Figure out what it was that caused you to smoke? Boredom? Depression? Lonliness? Whatever it was, make a list of things that you can do besides smoke when you start to feel that way. And, reward yourself for a job well done! Whenever you start to feel like quitting isn't worth it, it's time for a reward! Keep going and whatever you do, don't lose that determination and desire to quit! Crave the Quit! The number one piece of advice is don't beat yourself up over it. Sure, be disappointed in yourself, it's natural to feel that way. I think one powerful tool is to try as hard as you can to turn that disappointment into a personal challenge and meet it head-on. If you feel it would help make the ultimate step easier, consider drastically cutting down over a reasonable period of time? Keep in mind that a few puffs here or there still makes a smoker and we're here to help you not be. Consume mass quantities of water and fresh air. Buy or check out a large book, maybe a classic you've always wanted, or dreaded, to read. War and Peace comes to mind, or someting by Dostyevski(sp?) or Hesse. Now's your chance! OK, I have not been here since my anniversity. I have been quit a little over 14 months after smoking 40 years. Best advice. Forget you blew it. Put a plan together for the next time when the urge is really strong. Go for a walk, give you significant other all the credit cards and checkbook and cash, drink the water, come here and post and wait for someone to respond. Go get a cinnamon stick. Figure out what triggers you and avoid it like the plague if you can. Everyone here has given you some good ideas, use the ones that work for you. The proper response to do you want a smoke is N.O.P.E. Not one putt ever, but you quit one day, one hour, one minute at a time. You can do it.

Andrew....don't be disappointed....you now realize just what a tough enemy you are up against. Go through the winding road to the left. You might consider using some form of NRT? You will fare better if you make some sort of plans. You need a plan of action when a crave sets in. the ole technique of distract and delay. Staying physically busy in the beginning helps a lot. Staying away from the situations and places where you used to smoke a lot....changing your routine for a while. Being good to yourself....eating right, getting plenty of rest, working in some mild exercise....taking time for rewards and treats....setting up a reward plan that keeps you focused on staying smoke free. don't consider yourself as failing....just checking the waters and getting ready to dive in and swim! you CAN do this...there are plenty of us here as proof of that!
