Smoking after 2 years

17 years ago 0 126 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Glenda, BE CAREFUL! I quit on May 10, 2003 when I found out I was pregnant and New Years Eve 2005 I thought I could smoke just one. It was the same experience you had. Tasted awful, made me dizzy, gave me a headache, etc. I swore I would not smoke again. Fast forward to mid January 2006 . . . I had started smoking again and here I am now trying to quit, AGAIN. It's a very slippery slope. Be careful! T.

Linda, I think the thing to remember, that many of us forget, is that we are always going to be nicotine addicts. There will NEVER be a time in our lives that we can light up a cigarette and not return back to the addiction. That is the definition of an addiction. I am only 6 days into my quit, Linda. I do not fear lighting another cigarette because I have control over it. No one can force me to smoke. I will never forget that I want to be free of nicotine. Even after 10 years I will remember that one cig will only return me to being an addict. Possibly for life. Make a solemn oath to yourself that you will never again smoke. Never smoke again. Period. Ever. You are not making a sacrifice. You are embracing life without the slavery of addiction. Glenda I did the same last night - 3 puff's - WHY because I just did - it was awful and made me ill. Valuable lesson learnt - I'm not letting it get the better of me, I'm glad it made me sick, glad it was vile and glad I realised before I smoked it all. Join me in getting back on track and moving forward Joanne My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/3/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 18 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 461 Amount Saved: 90 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 15 Mins: 6 Seconds: 57

Good job for stepping back and NOT smoking any more. Hop back up on the wagon and you'll be fine. Glenda, I'm so sorry to hear of you losing your quit after so long. Two years is a long time to give up to this horrible addiction. It is good to see you looking at this in a possitive light. Some times people need to step back to where they use to be to see exactly how far they have come. I guess the fact is we will always be addicts no matter how long we are quit. We must always be on guard for the junkie thinking because at anytime it can get the best of us. The choice to remain smoke free does get easier as time goes on but thank you for the reminder that we must always continue to make that choice. I hope you get right back on your quit. Don't let this awful addiction control you again. It isn't worth it. Continue to fight for your life. Hi, Glenda. I once read an interview with a serial killer. The reporter asked how he felt about each of the murders. The killer said the first one was the hardest, after that all the others were easy. I may be way off base here, especially since I have no personal experience, but it seems to me this could apply to a long-term quitter having that "just one". My guess is the next one won't be nearly as bad. That's the one that will be the hardest to stay away from, Glenda. And I'm guessing it will start calling you soon. Walk carefully the next few weeks and don't hesitate to come here for help if you need it. Glenda....sorry to hear that you listened to your ole addiction and decided to give it a taste of the dreaded substance.....but I don't feel that you have 'lost' at this point. I agree with you that after a long period of not smoking we "choose" to light that cigarette. I don't think it slips up on us...I think it's right there inside us and we "choose" to listen and let it take control. I firmly believe that I am a nicotine addict and I will always be one. That doesn't mean that lighting up, now, is going to be the great, relaxing, enjoyable experience that our addiction tends to tell us it was. I think you found that out??? It really is dirty, disgusting and deadly. Take your now reinforced knowledge and put it at the top of the list of reasons why you don't smoke. You still have 2 years under your belt as far as I am concerned. keep right on truckin' Katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1598 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 63,932 Amount Saved: $8789 Life Gained: Days: 208 Hrs: 11 Mins: 26 Seconds: 8
