Hi Penitent, Welcome to the group. How's it going for you so far? Very well, I hope. It's nice to have such a great group of folks to quit with. I just got off work, crave-free, thank goodness. If I have a crave later, I'll lay down and nap it off. Thank you all for being here. We can do this! We WILL do this! Yay for us! Miller Man, No need to apologize for a long post. It's necessary to read and post as much as you need to in order to gain the distraction from and support for not smoking. I too have a daughter that is part of my reason for quitting. How old is yours? Mine's 3, but it's her older 1/2 brother that is most at risk. His mom and grandmother still smoke, and I want to give him a safe-haven from smoke and smelling like it. Welcome to May Co. and strength be with you in your quit. We're all here to help and be helped. Don't be afraid to lean on us whenever you need. StuBow, That looks about right. 6 of us. MAY we all be successful! MAY we live smoke free from now on! Strength be with us all! Dani, Those are great reasons to quit. I, too, want to play catch with my kids and not my breath. I feel that my romantic chances are better as a non-smoker. Since I've quit more than tobacco, I'm saving mass amounts of money and will soon afford many of the things I've dreamed of, like car maintenance, travel, clothes, music, paying off debt, etc... Ironically, I too am about to turn 36, and wanted to be good and quit by my birthday on June 30. I'm well on my way with a little help from my friends ---> and I mean all of YOU! Thank you, and strength be with us all. Thanks, Shevie, there was inconclusive talk of a name for a May group and...well, I just kinda took off with it and here we are. Of course, you're uber-welcome to hang out and lend your humor and wisdom to all of us new May'ers. Congratulations on the first year of the best of your life! I will be in your shoes this time next year, so go easy on them. :p Strength be with us. Welcome, Penguin! Congrats on your decision to quit. I hope we can help make your quit experience more pleasant. Read read read and read some more, then post post post!! It's a great distraction. :) This really heavy thought just hit me... Many of us, who have been smoking for 10 or more years, probably didn't remember what life was like before we smoked. It's like we're finding out for the first time what fresh air feels like, what it smells like and tastes like. Robbing and altering a bit of dialogue from the movie 'The Kingdom of Heaven.' Balian - "Is it true, that in quitting, I can find fresh-airness? Is it true?" Godfrey - "We can find out together." ...and another one that I WON'T alter, but I'll write is as good as I can from memory because I think it's relevant as it stands... King Baldwin IV of Jerusalem - "None of us choose our ends, really. A king may move a man, a father may claim a son, but remember that even when those that move you be kings...or men of power, your soul is in YOUR keeping alone. When you stand before god you cannot say that I was told by others to do thus, or that virtue was not convenient at the time. This will not suffice. Remember that." I love that movie! One of the best parts is that I'm pretty sure that nobody smokes in it! ;) Strength be with us. Hi, folks! Can I join in, too? A little old, a little grey, but I'm still a quitter from the month of May. (Sorry!) I sure am glad somebody was able to round up the May quitters. Tack me on the end of this list. May 23 I'm Penguin. I am 43 years old and live in Canada. I will be so glad when next winter rolls around and I will not have to go stand out in the cold to get my fix. Hi Stubow, My pleasure and I note that Shevie has joined too which is a good thing. Sorry to hear of your struggle yesterday but day 16 is early in the quit as you know since you've been there recently.Experience should help. Grit your teeth and get through it, nothing and I repeat NOTHING works more than sheer determination. There are aids to quitting smoking, use them as you see fit but if you want to get where Shevie is and beyond, you just have to want it badly enough. He did, I did and you can. Want it? Take it!! It really is as simple as that! And that's not just for Stubow, that's for all you new May quitters too! All the Best Penitent d735
