Koala... I just wanted to add... Remember what it felt like to be a slave to the addiction? Remember when you couldn't go anywhere without first thinking about where your next fix was going to be? Remember all the missed opportunities because you would rather be alone and smoke than out having fun with non-smokers? You are free of all of that now. Guess who is in control of your life now.... YOU ARE! :) You really wanna give that up? I don't think so. Hi Koala, I remember you well..When I first joined SSC you were a few months ahead of me and going strong.... There is not much more I can add other than to let you know that you are not alone. From time to time, when certain situations come up, I too think about smoking. I think about all the years I smoked and how my smoking seemed to help me cope with things....However, I remind myself of the reason I quit. I want to live!!!! I don't want to be hooked up to a breathing machine and my family having to see me that way. I want to see my little grandson grow up. I want to be able to run and play with him...Then I realize that I really don't want to smoke, its just the situation at hand that is making me think I want to.... Please Koala, just ride out the storm....After years of thinking about quiting and wanting to quit...We finally did it..And we suffered to get it done...Hang in there, Stand Strong and Fight. This feeling will not last long and you will look back and be so glad you didnt give in to this horrible horrible addiction again. Stay close and Post and let us help you. Leslie, I have looked up to you toooo long for us to do a role reversal! :8o: You know the drill. Go back to your original coping tools. Ice water, hard candies. Keep yourself busy. Whatever it took for you to get past those first days and weeks.
thankfully she has no use for my left arm
...but you do, darlin'! You can use it to keep your right arm on the steering wheel till you get home! :p Hang in there....remember....this too shall pass! If you fight it now, it'll be over soon. If you give up the fight...it'll start all over. Hi Leslie, for some reason, when the problems stack up on us, our brains reach for some familiar comfort: macaroni and cheese, blanket and pillow, or a cigarette. Rather than eat a giant bowl of mac and cheese, or go to bed to hide from the problems, or smoke a cigarette, we need to take deep breaths, pray for clarity of mind, and think about what we can do right now to help the problem.
I can actully see my self stopping to get gas tonight and buying a 20 pack of smokes and hiding them in my car so no one knows.
I would like you to change this picture of the future that's in your head. Change it to something that depicts you as the strong person that you are, the person who faces up to what she needs to do. Leslie, as you know, we're here for you. Stay close. Leslie, Glad that you posted here and glad that you are very near your 2 YEAR mark. It takes courage to reach out and it's courage that got you so far. I think once we get comfortable in our quits we really do forget what those first few weeks were like. Please read this post called My Return to Smoking that gives a very frank account of what one person's relapse was like. Don't give in. It's SO not worth it... Thank you all sooo much. He's still learking in the back ground, and I did stop at the gas station last night, but instead of smokes I bought gum and water, and walked away with my head held high. I told my hubby that I offered my co-worker my left arm for a smoke, and he told me if I did he'd cut off my right one and hit me over the head with it. He's such a great suport. As are all of you. I shouldn't be surprise that when someone on here screams for suport that you all come running. Not only did you help me get over this bump you helped me get back into positive thinking once again, and helped relive a little of my stress for that I'm thankful. You are all wonderful people. Every peice of advice you gave me really helped and reafirmed who Iam and why I quit. You guys and gals are the best. Hugs Koala :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/16/2004 Smoke-Free Days: 641 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 12,829 Amount Saved: $5769 Life Gained: Days: 51 Hrs: 14 Mins: 46 Seconds: 27

I haven't posted here in a long time; But thankfully your all still here. I guess I should re introduce my self to those who don't know me. I quit smoking after 17 years on Aug 4, 2004 I slipped once on October 15, 2004, and haven't had one since. (you can read more in the hall of fame) Any way the reason why Iam back and seeking help. I have had a very stressfull year so far with unemployement and problems with child care, job stress, and finacial burdens. Yesterday they all came to a head and I spend the majority of the night in tears. But I didn't smoke, I didn't even crave one or think of one. This moringing I woke up still in a funk, but craving major craving, I keep hearing the little voice in the back of my head saying have one it will make you feel better, just one, then you can quit again. Then this other voice whom I hopeing in the end wins is you guys saying, it only takes one to get hooked again, one will kill you, it won't solve anything, ect.......but that voice is still here, I told a co-worker that right now I'd chew off my left arm and give it to her for a smoke, thankfully she has no use for my left arm and didn't give me a smoke. I can actully see my self stopping to get gas tonight and buying a 20 pack of smokes and hiding them in my car so no one knows. but I would know and all this work over the last year and a half would be for nothing. I hope I have the strengh to make it through. Thank you all for listening, I know I can always count on you. To all your newbees please don't be scared that a person with so much time under thier belt is having a hard time and that the pain never ends, it does, 98% of the time I don't think about or want a smoke. just every once in a blue moon it sneeks up one me. Leslie, I'm glad you came here first and screamed! I can only tell you what you already know....that the junkie Nicodemon is trying to persuade you that you will feel better if you have a smoke. Of course you already know that nothing will change for the better...that you will still have the same problems PLUS one new one - an addiction to feed. I'm sorry that you are having so much stress. Things seem to happen all together, don't they? I think every time you survive a crisis against Nicodemon, you become stronger. There are times when we can have several days of feeling quite down. I hope yours passes very soon. love, Lizzie
