Irritabilities

18 years ago 0 35 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hello, My name is Steven and I started my road to a healthy life today. I threw out my remaining smokes, breaking them in 1/2 and running them under water to make sure those could no longer be smoked. I will be able to deal with the physical and mental withdrawals (barely) with the help of support groups and my exercises when the cravings get real bad....but....... The irritability....I do not wish to do that to my wife....she knows and understand there WILL be irritability that comes along with all of this. I need suggestions, help, something so I can curb these irritable spots I will have. Hi jdtigg!! I told everyone a few days ago that I had quit. I also explained to them how terribly difficult it is at times, and told them a few of the things that happen when I start feeling like I need a cigarette, and irritability is one. I've found that most people are very understanding, if I can take the time to inform them that I'm in a grumpy mood because of the cravings, not because of them. Most people are so proud to see us quit, that they will deal with some grouchiness in the short term. Just keep your chin up! Every day gets a teensy bit easier! Hi Steven, I recommend sugar free popsicles... it's hard to be irritable w/ a popsicle in hand, (goes back to pleasant childhood memories) and it gives you something for your hands and mouth to do. diet snapple's my fave good luck! tim My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/24/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 16 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 253 Amount Saved: $127.2 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 9 Mins: 54 Seconds: 9

I blew up at my poor sister last week. I was taking her to the airport and I was so frustrated and I didn't know why. When I realized it was because I was not smoking, she just said, I am so proud of you and just let me know if you are irritated for that reason! So, as long as you are self-aware, it works! :) Mira My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/15/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 22 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 453 Amount Saved: $77 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 17 Mins: 52 Seconds: 53

Jdtigg, You need to find something that makes you happy or that calms you. It can be a hot bath, a run, yoga, candy, a nice dinner... anything that works for you. You can also try taking deep breaths or listening to music. Hope this helps, Danielle _______________________________________ The SSC Support Team

I try and take myself away from the situation, I have gone to the bedroom and pulled the covers over my head and cried, and then slept. At work I have just got up and explained that I have to go for a walk and said that it is in everyone's best interests if I do. Just walk away and then collaspe if you need to, sleep it off or cry it out. But don't forget that however bad and irritable you feel taking one puff or smoking a full cig will not make it better it will make you feel even worse. As Lady said, take deep breaths and drink lots of water Good luck and we will be with you all the way Joanne My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/3/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 34 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 868 Amount Saved: 161.5 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 1 Mins: 29 Seconds: 14

Just get away from the situation before you say something you may regret! I blew my top more than once and then I got over it. Once I came to terms with the fact that I WAS QUITTING then it got better. Your mind needs time to wrap itself around this, or mine did anyway. Take it a minute at a time and come vent here when you need to!!! We are always here for you!!!
