I just read your link. Seems like everyone's quit is, in fact, quite different. I just went off the patch yesterday and tossed and turned all night, which I never do. I can't help thinking that, while using nrt's are better than smoking, the link in our brains between lower nicotine levels and a cigarette stay put. I've been in almost constant crave mode with the patch and the weaning process. I haven't had even a puff of smoke in all these days, but I think, in a way, the patch may have kept me in a constant state of withdrawel. Still, I know, without the patch, the first week would have been impossible so the remaining weeks would have been a moot point. Eventually we have to get off nicotine too. (don't we?) No one said it would be easy, that's for sure. Hang in there- you're doing great! Monday will be 3 months since I quit smoking, and today is 2 weeks since I stopped using the patch. All the literature says that I should not be having these crazy cravings for a cigarette, but i am. I know that some of the feelings (cravings) are physcolgical but some are also physical. If I chew nicorette gum it seems to help. Last night I could hardly sleep because I wanted a cigarette so badly, it was all I could think about. (I have never smoked in bed) I got up and had some nicorette gum which seemed to help. Also in the last couple of weeks (since ending patch) I gave gained over 10 pounds, on top of the 10 pounds I gained during the first 11 weeks. I am now feeling like a blimp, and all the benefits (breathing, walking, etc) of quitting are disappearing very quickly. I know that I have to be strong about this, but I just wish that it would get easier. not harder. I read a research paper from the University of Wisconis and I hope this does apply to me. news.wisc.edu/wire/i061699/withdrawal Thanks for letting me rant. I'm at 50 days and have had some pretty strong urges too. I have a friend that smokes and they tell me "you don't want a cigarette" And you know what I really don't!! It's just a matter of realizing that. Smile you're doing great.
