Staying Strong

18 years ago 0 296 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I feel that im getting stronger every day. This weekend will be a true test for me. We have some friends that are spending the weekend and they are smokers. When they first arrived at my house tonight, the first thing I thought of was. Oh my is that what I really smelt like after I came back into my house after smoking. It smelt so bad. It didn't give me a craving it made me stronger in my quit. I only have 2 friends left that smoke so im hoping they will jump on the quit program soon. Even my friend tonight mentioned that all her smoking buddies are quiting. I was a little worried about this weekend, just knowing there would be a pack of cigarette's in my house but after they walked threw the door all my worries went away. Have a great weekend Alley My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 23 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 300 Amount Saved: $90.85 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 20 Mins: 30 Seconds: 53

Thanks sunshine, I will keep that in mind. They are leaving tomorrow afternoon so its not for a long weekend. My quit has been pretty easy so far but I have been reading and the ones that have the easy quit usally has it harder down the road. Im starting to prepair myself that at anytime this quit could start to be hard. I quit cold turkey and I do believe its all a mind game and if you are in the right state of mind you can stay strong. Im not giving in now. I want a new car for my 6 month reward. Hey Lake You are the awsome one. Living with a smoker, I just can't amagine. People ask me how long I smoked. I tell them all my life. Both my parents smoked and they smoked in the house, In the car. I hated it so much as a child. I remember being in a car filled with smoke. I would beg for my father to open a window. Living in Minnesota his repley to me would be. Open your own window. Well now even more of the smoke came my way. I just couldn't win. At the age of 12 I started smoking. My parents never knew for a long time. I smoked in my bedroom but when you live in a smoke filled house. I more person smoking really didn't matter. Im proud of you Lake we are close in our quit dates. Keep it up like all the BIG QUITTERS say here Stay Strong!! Alley ann, you are awsome. It is hard when a smoker comes by. My wife still smokes, sometimes I walk by her pack and it would be sooooooooo easy just to pick em up and start, but I keep saying "I'm stronger than they are" It is a struggle, but I look at it as a VICTORY!! Dear Alley Ann I hope your weekend is great. You will be soooo pleaseed when its over and you stayed nicotine free. It will be an AWESOME accomplishment and I know you can do it. I went through my "firsts" and they were all challenging. The first time going out with smoker friends, the first time at a bar, the first 4 hour car ride, first wedding, first family crisis, first funeral, first time being intimate....etc. Thought I had all the firsts beat. Then a couple of weekends ago I thought....I am ok to have a couple of cocktails....I can handle booze now without smoking. Since I was not driving, I had a few. Without even thinking I picked up a box of smokes (my old brand) and put one in my mouth and was looking for a light when everyone started freaking!! THANK GOODNESS. This was the demon taking advantage of me having my guard down. I have rethought the alcohol thing and for now...I know I can't drink. Have a Great Weekend Alley and Stay Strong! AlleyAnne, don't let your guard down for one second. That happened to me Easter Weekend, I had family here from Friday until Monday. And a lot of them smoked. Every thing went well until Sunday, even though they went outside to smoke I could smell it and I could see them. I was a 99 days I think. I didn't have time to come to SSC, I had to do it on my own. I went to the bathroom and lay on the floor and started my deep breathing for probably 5 minutes, and then I just started to close my mind off to the whole situation. I know they say to leave the situation but I couldn't leave my own house I was in the middle of fixing dinner. But I made it and that is the most important thing.. I will be thinking of you this weekend...Hold on tight with every thing that you have.... Blessings sent your way, SUNSHINE My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 105 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,786 Amount Saved: $367.5 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 2 Mins: 40 Seconds: 34

AlleyAnn, Wow, what a 6 month reward!!! I'm glad it has been easy for you. I admire you to be able to go cold turkey. I had tried several times cold turkey and just couldn't do it. I did the patches for 10 weeks, had a little rough time after I took the last patch off. But I know it was nothing like I hear HELL WEEK is. Stay strong, and keep believing that you CAN DO THIS!!!
