Hi Fran, Congratulations on your quit! You're on your way to week one. That's a huge accomplishment. By now the nicotine is out of your system, or nearly out, so you've proven that you can live with out it. Give yourself a pat on the back! Just think, you'll be approaching 3 weeks when you hit Vegas, and that's a great accomplishment. I've found this is a great place to "lurk," so welcome, and good luck on your quit! Hi Fran, I'm happy to be on board here to extend a welcome and to send congrats over to you on your new quit! My quit is pretty new as well. My kids only noticed my husband and I quit the first day and never asked me about it again. They think - "OH, OKAY I ASKED MOM & DAD TO QUIT SMOKING AND THEY DID". To them, that's all there is to it. It's like when they don't get ice cream one day after dinner, kids know NO addictions. Which was a HUGE factor for me, I never want to see my kids go through any addiction. Best to you and hope your hubby is very supportive ! Great job so far, Keep up the Excellent work. Dear Fram Welcome to SSC. Congrats on 5 days!!! THAT IS HUGE!! and you should be so proud. No doubt you have come to the right place for support for your quit venture. Yes, most of us understand about nobody noticing your quit. However you really just need to tell them. Not only do you need SSC, you need the support of your friends and family. Don't worry about failing......IF you did....that doesn't mean you are a failure!! You are already through 5 days! And ohhhh..........yep, grab that pack of smokes you have and don't walk....RUN to the nearest dumpster and chuck them (trust me on that!!) Stay Strong :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/30/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 70 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,062 Amount Saved: $210 Life Gained: Days: 7 Hrs: 17 Mins: 22 Seconds: 53

Hi there Fran! Well, we have a few things in common. :) Firstly, my kids didn't say anything either. Now, granted they are only 7 and 3, but they made a fuss every time my hubby and I smoked. They told us we "stink", and they backed away from hugs, and crinkled up their noses when a kiss was given. My daughter learned about smoking in school, and always asked us why we smoked. My other daughter, when she was 2, picked up a butt in the backyard and put it to her mouth and said "Hey Mommy, I do just like you!". Sad thing was, she was actually excited and thought she did something good. I missed a lot of their young years by spending my time in my garage, smoking. But you know all of that stuff............... Secondly, I went to Laughlin when my quit was 20 days. When I opened the door to the Lobby, I was amazed. There was sooooo much smoked in there! I never noticed just how much....... Something in me clicked, and I knew that I would not smoke. To be right next to someone who is smoking took a lot of willpower, especially when I was drinking too. But I still knew that I did not want one. I would not recommend someone going there until their quit is secure. And dont let your friends tell you that one drag is okay. N.O.P.E. One drag is not okay when you are quit. Even when you turn into the green monster craving a smoke. I'm sorry this is so long. I also want to congratulate you on your sucess so far. 6 days now! That is something to celebrate! Remember to reward yourself. Your first week is tomorrow!!!!!!! Keep us posted. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 37 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,136 Amount Saved: $120.99 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 1 Mins: 9 Seconds: 44

Fram, welcome to SSC, and congratulations to those big 5 days, you go girl....But first if you haven't already done it put those cig's in a place where no one can find them (in a hole), but first pour water on them, and tear them into little bitty pieces. Next thing tell the whole world, you will be surprised how much support you get. And those kids will come around just you wait and see. I wish that there was some way you could go to Vegas at a later date. Always stay close to the site, read an post you will find it will become one of your best friends. You're doing a great thing for yourself and your family and what a great way to start your 40's. Look forward to your post and watching you grow, everyone in our community has something to give and so do you. Blessings sent your way, SUNSHINE My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 93 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,597 Amount Saved: $325.5 Life Gained: Days: 13 Hrs: 12 Mins: 27 Seconds: 44

Congratulations on 5 days Fran! Job well done. Take it easy on yourself and get rid of the smokes. AND You kids may never mention or say a word and only because they might be scared of upsetting the apple cart. If you want then to treat you in a certain way you will have to teach them, model for them how you would like for them to treat you. Good luck My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 53 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,060 Amount Saved: $397.5 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 15 Mins: 19 Seconds: 11

Hi Fram, Welcome. You're right this is a great place. Congrats on your 5 days. I just have a few suggestions for you. Firstly, run, don't walk to those ciggies and throw them out! You may find their making you feel strong by resisting them, but there may be a time when you aren't strong enough to resist. There really is no need for them to be there. You don't need them any more. Remember, you don't smoke! Secondly, I found that when I quit, by telling everyone I was quitting, I was putting myself in a place where I wouldn't want all these people to know if I failed. I even told the clerks where I bought my ciggies. I say tell the whole world! You're a non-smoker now. Right? Right!! Keep Strong, you will find lots of support here. Hi, Fram. Congratulations on 5 days quit and welcome to the SSC. Your kids may eventually realize you are no longer smoking, but don't hold your breath. Non-smokers really can't relate or understand a quit. It's not that they don't care, they just have no reference or experience. Nicotine is the most addictive substance there is; worse than alcohol, heroin, cocaine. But it can be beaten, just look around. Don't wait for your non-smoking friends to notice you aren't smoking. Tell them now! And ask for their support while you are in Vegas. That place, IMO, is a quitter's nightmare. Even the non-smoking rooms smell like smoke and I noticed that back when I smoked. Actually, the best action you could take is to beg off on the trip. Go later, when your quit is more stable. Any smoking paraphenalia you have around the house should be tossed. If you don't want to throw away the ashtrays, at least wash them and put them well out of sight. But get rid of those cigarettes!!! Might as well hand a drink to an alcoholic or a syringe to a junkie. If you haven't already, I strongly suggest you go though this site's Online Quit Program. There's a ton of tips and advice that will help. And stay close. Post often. Let us know how you're doing and if we can help. This is a grand choice you've made for your life, Fram. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 322 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,456 Amount Saved: $1223.6 Life Gained: Days: 60 Hrs: 4 Mins: 14 Seconds: 52
