Coping with being around other smokers

18 years ago 0 672 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
My advice....walk away - & avoid temptation. at least untill you can handle it. My family who all smoke offered me no support whatsoever, they flaunted it in my face... guess who's flaunting it now, Cha Ching !! Hey HardRoadAhead, you're in trouble.. literally. You won't have a 'hard road ahead' with these 'Buddy Smokers' if you're very strong in the beginning. Generally these 'Buddy Smokers' feel threatened by our 'non-smokyness', they will most likely need you to smoke or you will feel the need to smoke to 'fit in'. On the other hand if they are true friends they will support you & meet you half way, but from experience - they won't, you have beenwarned ..... be wary. :8o: My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 461 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 11,541 Amount Saved: $2996.5 Life Gained: Days: 66 Hrs: 3 Mins: 28 Seconds: 33
How to handle situations like this?
You do just what you did -- you walk away! I think a resort like Sandals is a one-in-a-lifetime kind of place...you probably won't be around that much smoke again in a long time. You did great!!! it keeps getting easier....You all are at a tough time....I remember that the smell of stale smoke was awful and irritable....on the other hand, the smell of a newly lit cigarette would make me think of smoking. Both feelings finally passed away. I still don't like stale smoke, but it's not as noticable as it once was....and a freshly lit cig just makes me thankful I no longer feed the demon. I sympathize with smokers....I remember only too well what it was like to be in the grips of my addiction....I thank God everyday that I somehow gained control. hang tough...kick butts....you all have some great quits going!!!
