I'm Coming out of the Closet!

18 years ago 0 1 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi, I am so sick of hiding my smoke rings. I have been smoking for 30 years on and off. I have hidden it from some of my relatives all along. I quit everytime I got pregnant (4) and then so manytimes afterwards! The last time I quit for more than 1 year, using the patch and I was so stupid to start up. My hubby and I were out having coctails and he said "Boy, I could sure use a cigarette right now, and BLAMMO..we were both lighting up! Now I have tried to quit almost weekly and something always happens. It is so sad because I am so embarrased, telling people I quit and then starting that I do not tell them I started and now I am hiding it from EVERYONE but my hubby and my best friend. I do not want to go to family functions, church, anywhere that pulls me into clean air. I hate it! I have plans to go to hypnotist on May 2 so I am using that for my next quit date. My best friend smokes like a chimney so I am hoping she will quit that night also. If she doesn't I am fearful that I will start up again anytime I with her. I came to this website as a last resort. Any input you all can give is welcomed! :(

welcome closet smoker and congrats for deciding to quit. I've been told by my shrink that hypno is the way to go. Can you talk your friend into going with you? If not, you may need to stay away from her for awhile (just a year or so). If she is your firend she will understand.

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Welcome Closet, One of the terms I learned from this site is N.O.P.E.-Not One Puff Ever- that's me. I know if I would take just one drag of a cigarette I would be back to smoking. Tomorrow it will be one month since I became a non-smoker...and it really blows my mind. I smoked for more than 35years. This site has the best information and most wonderful support. Work the program at the left and read the posts.I love smelling clean fresh air-my car and my house actually smell fresh. So many positives. To me it sounds like you have trouble staying quit. If you keep repeating N.O.P.E. and realize that you cannot have even one drag of a cigarette, maybe you can break free from the evil nicotine monster :eg:. I hope you decide that this time you will stay quit and join us non-smokers. Welcome Closet Smoker! :) I just wanted to say congrats to you for coming here. This is a wonderful place. We are all here to support you! I do suggest using the tools to the left, if you haven't done so yet. They are VERY helpful. I hate stealing someone elses quote, but it a great one. "Your desire to Not smoke must outweigh your desire to smoke." If you want to stop smoking, more than you want to smoke, you have a great chance of sucess. I believe knowledge, support, and determination = sucess. I was hypnotized with my hubby. I didnt think it would work, but here I am. So far, so good. You can do if you really want to! Let us know how it goes! Hi Closet Smoker - Well, I have good and bad news... The good news is that YOU CAN DO THIS! We are all doing it, and we are all here loving and supporting each other. So that's a done deal:) Now, for the bad news. You really have to wanna not smoke more than you want to smoke, as Lady says. if that's not the truth, you're not going to hold a Quit for very long... It's time to be honest with yourself, do some soul searching, and come here... we are here for you, when you are ready. I was a closet smoker too. Click on this Reflections after not smoking 3097 cigarettes for my thoughts. Maybe they will help. The energy is took to keep this a secret and the alientation from friends and activities are finally gone! The freedom is wonderful. Since you did it for a year, you know that it can be done. This time, add to your knowledge that you are an addict and can never ever have another puff regardless of what life throws your way. (NOPE - not one puff ever) If you accept this, I believe you will be successful. Best wishes. Glad to have you join this site. The people here were what made my quit my final quit. Yes, we only modify our habits when it hurts to much where we are. A few words if you please -- 1. Did you really think all those people thought you were a ex-smoker (church, family, etc)? 2. Did others pull your trigger to restart, or did you do it to yourself? It is important you know the difference. 3. Why not patches again, as they worked before for a year? 4. One of the things paramount in being successful is to modify who we socialize with (perhaps chain-smoking friend needs to be keep at a distance, if she is not willing to quit with you.). 5. Alcohol played a part before...quit or it will play a part again. Enough of all that few advice. If you understand that the only reason God gave us these bodies was to carry our brains around...then you will use yours, as I did, and find a way to make it work. Congrats' and I wish you the warmest of compliments in your efforts.
