Trying to quit today

18 years ago 0 6 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I have smoked for a good 47 years . I am so tired of smelling of smoke and being a slave to the cigs. I have tried to quit before and make it only two months . The withdrawls is what I get a fraid of . I am afraid of lashing out at people I get pretty hateful when I quit. This is what I want to do and I picked today to be a starter . It is such a pretty day today so I have dicided that when things get bad go take my dog for a walk . That will give me a lot of fresh air and exercise . God Bless Molly67 :)

Hi Molly67, Welcome to the site and congrats on your choice to quit smoking-good for you! I too smoked for far too many years -36ish to be exact. Maybe when you feel like lashing out at someone you can recognize it as part of withdrawl and try something else instead-a deep breath and counting to 10? I think taking your dog for a walk is wonderful, you'll both benefit from that. And now that you are smoke-free your dog won't be breathing in second-hand smoke-another benefit! So take those long walks and enjoy being together and remember to do the program at the left. Good luck, Trudy My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/21/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 7 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 176 Amount Saved: $20.93 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 20 Mins: 9 Seconds: 28

Hi Molly and welcome, This site is amazing -you will find all the support and love you can take in, that's made all the difference in the world for me. I certainly have had (and will have) my angry days. Seems that that is part of the Quit, but it sure is worth it. There's alot of info here about the anger that comes up, so make sure to read and read, and post:) I read on a post here that when quitting, it's a good time to catch up w/friends later... For me, it has worked best to solo for awhile so I can focus on my Quit and take care of me. Don't be afraid, Molly, you can do this. We are all here to help. Hi Molly; Congratulations on your quit. You can do it. I am 35 yr smoker, never attempted a quit more than a couple hours, never even really tried. Just got sick of the whole thing. I was more afraid of quitting than I have had withdrawal incidents, (if that makes sense). Use the tools here, post and read and read. It has helped me so much. Many of these neat people have the coolest humor and it just makes your day so much better. Welcome aboard!!! ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/17/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 37 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,124 Amount Saved: $116.55 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 8 Mins: 58 Seconds: 2

Welcome Molly, I too was a 35 year smoker and just got tired of it all, particularly the way that smoking ruled my life. But no more!! I am now so glad to feel clean, fresh and healthy. Just keep focused and determined, take it hour by hour and day by day and come here often it really does help. Welcome Molly. So glad that today is the day you decieded to change your life to a non-smoking one. I spent nearly 40 years smoking and like you just found my self one day entertaining the idea that I could be a non-smoker. I could just quit. So I did my homework here, picked my date, practiced cutting down, said my prayers and stopped smoking. I hung around here a lot the first month. Read nearly everything on the boards, practiced breathing, and drank alot of fluids... Wow, easier than I thought, look at me now... Hi Molly and welcome to the rest of your life! Getting outside when you have a rough patch is a great coping mechanism. Another great one is work on the Quit Program Tools over on the left. They will help you get your mind around the whole quitting process. Stay close here and shout out when you need to! Just know that you CAN quit - you just have to want to bad enough.
