Having second thoughts

Hi there again! Well, I just wanted to let you know that I am here for you. I will be by your side and I will watch your progress. I am always on my computer! I thought when my hubby & I quit, all hell would break loose in our house!!! I thought about how I (and him) would treat the kids. I sure was wrong! However, I do praise the hypnotist for that. When we were hypnotised, we were told how to relax, how to breathe, and how to stay calm. I know the only reason our house isn't on fire is because of this. Other than that, we both went COLD TURKEY!! We have tried the patch before, but didn't like it. I cant have meds becuz of past siezures. I know that not everybody can afford a hypnotist ($200/per session), but to us, we knew many people who have suceeded with it, so we saved up! If I didnt do this, I would definately find some sort of NRT, as you are in a situation that prevents you from showing complete despair! It is sad that I cannot share my triumph with my family. But I have a lot of other support, so I make myself not think of it. Telling them would be worse......... Whatever you choose, just know that we will all be here for you. Just keep in mind, it does get easier! My first 3 days were horrid! I felt like the craving lasted all day long. But I made a choice -- smoking was NOT an option. I chose life, health, and most important, my girls. Stay strong, and post all of the time. Read old posts as well! ****4my2girls**** My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 12 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 249 Amount Saved: $39.24 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 0 Mins: 7 Seconds: 54

Hello Momof1girl! Well, well, well. We do have a couple of things in common! First, I have 2 girls. One of which is old enough as well to know that I should not smoke. Second is that I hid it from my parents too. My hubby smoked, so I think the reason I smelt a little was from him. I would always have them call before they came over. I would change shirts, wash my hands, sip some mouthwash, and spray hairspray on me so I wouldn't smell. What a lot of work....... Anyhow, my hubby and I quit together. It is still hard that I cannot enjoy my quit to my parents. In my family, smoking is bad -- my father is an ex-smoker and 12yr cancer survivor; his sister (my aunt) is an 8yr cancer survivor, now battling breast cancer for the 2nd time); his brother (my uncle)finaly quit after his 2nd triple by-pass. The list continues....... So for them to think that "I" had smoked, would break their hearts.... I would definately quit before they come home. Give yourself at least 10 days. Go through the steps on the left now to prepare yourself. You have to prepare, learn, and commit. You can do it with these. Do anything you have to to fight the cravings -- just do NOT smoke. You will get used to it. It does get easier. My cravings are light, but I'm still getting used to doing my daily routine without a cig. It is much easier now though. You can't quit for your daughter. You have to quit for yourself. Your daughter is your mere inspiration for your quit. Just remember, quit for YOUR health, so you can be around to see her grow up........ You can do it. We are all here for you! ****4my2girls**** My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 11 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 230 Amount Saved: $35.97 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 22 Mins: 16 Seconds: 45

Hi Momof1girl, Both of my kids questioned my smoking for years (& my husband's), especially after my mother-in-law passed away from lung cancer. My husband hasn't quit.....yet, but he has made some progress in ccutting back. For years I used the excuse that I couldn't quit by myself as he'd smell like smoke, and I'd cave in and smoke again; it took me some serious thinking on my part to quit regardless of my husband and kids. Like everyone else, I want to be around to see my kids grow up, and enjoy any grandchildren I may get, but ultimately I had to be ready for all the pitfalls associated with quitting. I just chose a date giving myself one week to prepare, so I wouldn't keep coming up with excuses to stall/or not quit.I still get the occasional craving, and have to remind myself not to be crabby (hits me after work). I used the patch for 4wks as I smoked at least a pack per day. I didn't hide it from my folks, but when visiting, they asked my daughter if I always smoked that much, which to my dismay, my daughter confirmed yes I did. Now I can say proudly that I've quit and won't start up again for any reason. Have faith in yourself to be strong, you CAN do it, and just think, when you get ready to move into your new home, make it a smoke free home, so you won't have the smell anymore. (I did that to my husband, that's why he cut back-it's cold outside) Good luck and think positive!!! Hi, honesty is the best policy. Trust me telling everyone your intentions will be good. Your parents will support you if you let them know that you are not doing well on the days that you are not. It is hard but you can do it. I know that one positive thing I did was to pray. I don't know if you believe in that but I kept saying this is bigger than me Lord please take it from me. It worked Oct 14, 2005 cold turkey just put them down. It was very hard at first but each time it got easier. Just look at that small object and say I am bigger than this. And you will soon look at others doing it and keep say thank God I don't do that anymore. I continue you to do it. I also tell my self that i am a recovering nicotine addict. Cause that is what I think I am. I can never, and I mean never put a cig in my mouth again. I will pray for you and you can do all things through Chirst who strengthens you.

WOOOHOOOO!! Way to go Momof1girl. You're already racking up smoke-free days, amount saved, and life gained. Hang in there. It's hard at first, but it does get easier and it's soooooooo well worth it. I would try to move up your quit date so you will be more off the smokes by time your parents come home. Don't look at your new house building as a more stressful time, look at it as something to occupy your free time, look at as a new beginning smoke free. Quitting smoking is hard but its not the end of the world, its going to make you feel like a million and make you smell so much better. Your daughter will love having a smoke free sweet smelling mommy. I kept putting off my smoke day because I was afraid of missing them. What would I do in stressful situations or when I was bored. I tried cutting back but for me that was not working. Actually I quit one week ahead of my planned schedule. I am soooo glad I quit. It hasn't been easy but I take it one day at a time. I get on line every day and read as much as I can. I always go for short walks when it overpowers me. I look at the trees, flowers, houses, whatever and take in some really big breaths and then the crave disappears. I found the real me. I no longer have a crutch and I am 100% ME and I like me. I am very proud that I have made it this far (49 days) and I keep working at it. Good luck and keep the faith, you CAN quit being addicted.

I agree with 3galeh completely. By the time you're building your house, your quit will be well established.
