One of my favorite activities is going to be a high temptation place!

Hi All, I love music, I love going to see live music of all kinds - I go to a show about once every 2 to 3 weeks if I can. But, these are always really smoking situations! I can limit how much I drink (I enjoy shows sober sometimes, too!) But other than that, this is a way I treat myself? Should I stop going to something I love to avoid the temptation? Thanks!

Thanks all for the advice... if I do go to the show, I'm going with a non-smoker... it's too early for me to give in yet... Thanks to everyone!

Hi Igray. I feel for you. I have to go thru the same thing, except I'm a musician...I play shows in bars. Luckily, in California, you can't smoke inside..even at a bar. I picked last weekend to quit because I had the weekend off...but I have a gig tomorrow night, and Fri and Sat...then 3 to 4 nights a week for the rest of the summer. I think the trick is just to focus on what you love...the MUSIC. The cigs didn't make the experience any better. If anything, the made it worse, because you had to distract yourself from the show to have cigs. Cigs never made out lives or experiences better, but the bad part of our brain would like us to think they do. Hi lgray! I read on another thread that you responded on that this is your first day today?? Congratulations!! I would recommend that you put off your shows. Alcohol and your quit do not mix. You will be feeling stronger soon, and once you are ready to tackle one of your triggers, then I'd say go, but again, no alcohol. I don't know where you are, but here in California, even outdoor shows do not allow smoking, except in a designated area. Thank god for that. It makes it much easier to get through a show! I wish you well! Stay in touch! Hey Man i think its a great test but also it feels good when you first succeed - i like to party a lot and i used to do this always with a ciggy in my mouth - at first i could not imagine partying and not smoking - but i did it - and now it feels fine. I feel less distracted and more confident without the cigs actually. Go out party and put your quitt to the test - youll see that its easy - and you can take pity on all the overly distracted smokers who spend more time sparking up smoking and extinguishing cigarettes than they do partying. Cigarettes Not Smoked

Igray, I went to a live concert on day 5 where everyone was smoking around me. Not only that, I went with my roommate at the time who smoked. I was fine that time but a different concert I went to, I wasn't fine and ended up caving. They gave 3 packs of free cigarettes away to anyone who wanted them and so I went and got my packs and gave 2 to my roommate at the time and kept one for myself. BIG MISTAKE!!!! And at that point, I was 2 months into my quit. Concerts can be a HUGE trigger... they are for me too, so I completely understand where you are coming from. So, if you decide to go, do NOT drink much, take a few inspirational posts with you and make sure you have your coping mechanisms ready when you go... gum, hard candy, etc... have plenty of ammunition. And if you think that you might smoke... you know, you're kinda thinking that maybe one won't hurt and this is a special occasion and you want to enjoy it and don't think you can without a cigarette... DON'T GO!!!!!!!! It's NOT worth your quit! Better safe than sorry! Crave the Quit! Igray, Why not be prepared for the temptation? You can use many coping mechanisms and bring them with you to occupy you and curb the craves. You can stay away from the scene for a little while and get back to it when you are more comfortable as well. Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
