Struggling Question

18 years ago 0 4 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
I'm wondering if I am still struggling with my quit so much because I didn't "prepare" at all before hand. I just bought the patch one evening and got up the next morning and put it on and have been going thru the motions of not smoking. Was I really "ready" to quit and that is why I am struggling so much? Or is it just this is normal and no matter how much you prepare prior to quitting it is still gonna feel the same? Hi Mountain! I can't say that I know what you are going through - as I haven't gotten there yet in my quit. I'm certainly looking forward to getting as far along as you - that's outstanding!! I would just want to echo though what everyone else has said: DON'T GIVE UP! DON'T GIVE IN! You know... You really do KNOW by now that the cravings will pass. They have before. I bet you can think of a day that was really, really rough but you made it through. Hang in there mate - you can and will get through this. Hi there Mountain! I ditto the responses here. You are doing an AWESOME job in your quit!!! 83 days are something to be proud of!! That just doesn't happen to people who aren't "ready" to quit!! I truely believe that your junkie is talking to you right now. You need to ignore him. Throw those thoughts out. That junkie has no place in you. You can beat him. You can win, heck, you already have 83 days over him. Knock him down!! I did not prepare for my quit either. However, I grew into my quit. I accepted that I do not smoke. I do not think of "missing" smoking. Keep doing what you are doing!! Stay strong!! You are doing GREAT!! mountain i think i know what your are going thru. i didnt know i was quitting until the night before i quit. my husband was planning on quitting the next day and said something to me. i got on an internet sight and read for a couple of hours on quitting cold turkey, got done and threw everything away that night. that was almost six mos ago, and i have not had any nicotine since then. oh by the way, my husband lasted three days and started up again. anyway at about day 105, i had cravings like the first couple of weeks, and it lasted for two weeks. so it might be the nicodemon talking to you, trying to break your will. stay strong, remember all the reasons you dont want to smoke, and try to remember all the times when you were smoking and you felt terrible, we tend to forget those times. Mountain, First of all, congratulations on 83 days! You can't be quit for nearly 3 months and not be doing something right! In fact, you've obviously done a lot of things right! I think your second guessing at this point is the junkie in your talking, trying to convince you that you weren't ready and that you need to go back to smoking to prepare some more. DON'T LISTEN TO THAT JUNKIE!!! I've known a lot of people to go through a hard time right around where you are. In fact, anywhere between 80 and 120 days can be a difficult time... that's not to say that it lasts that long, but rather that it hits you in that time, and that can be a rough period. However, once you pass through that period, you will really start to feel the freedom of quitting that is absolutely amazing! It's like the nicodemon's last stand before you start feeling really good about your quit. So, hold on! You're almost there! As for not preparing... some people prepare a lot and some don't. To be honest, it all depends on the person. There are some people who NEED to prepare ahead of time, and others are perfectly capable of flying by the seat of their pants in this quit. There's no right or wrong. And as for having a rough time, that too differs a lot. Some people tend to have easier quits than others without any rhyme or reason to it. Me, I'm personally one of the ones who has had an awful time with the quit! I struggled A LOT... I think possibly more than most people. But that's not to say that it's still not possible... it is. It's all about mindset. Do you WANT this quit? Well, I don't think you can be 3 months quit and not want it. Are you capable of quitting? Well, duh! You've been quit for 3 months, so of course you're capable of it! Is quitting easy for anyone? NO! There are varying degrees, but nobody ever has an "easy" time of quitting... but we just take what we get and go with it. You've done a fine job of that so far... just keep on doing what you've been doing, and you'll be fine! Crave the Quit! Mountain, Congrats on 83 days! You have gotten this far, so don't look back :) The members are correct in saying that this is a normal part of the quit. It will pass and you can do this! The determination and journey have gotten you where you are today, so hold strong and keep occupied. Take some you time and really pamper yourself. Relieve yourself of that extra stress and you will fair well. Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
