Sadness

Alexa- I have found that there are good days and more challenging days. And ya know what? Through this site, and the posts I find day and night as I need them, I make it one more day, moment to moment, a non-smoker. And I love it - clean hair, my car and house don't smell like smoke. My hands smell so clean. It's wonderful! Today was a tough day, so I got out of here, went to the mall for a walk, and just got myself busy rather than thinking about smoking. Take it one day at a time, one hour at a time, dear one. There is so much support and wisdom on this site, that's what has gotten me here today. Be gentle w/yourself, crawl under the covers if you need to. Just DON'T SMOKE. alexa Don't give up, you are doing great, keep reading the posts here everyone here has had bad days. The last few days for me have been really bad, but there is no way I am going to give in now, this is the first time in over 30 years of smoking that I have made it this far and like you this is also the first time I really do not want to fail, I think not wanting to fail is what keeps us going, your husband is right the cravings will stop, the bad day will end, than you will have good days, than some more bad days, than next thing you know your at 30 smoke free days, than 60 than before you know it we will both be on the beach (can't wait). Just remember you wont really kill for a cigarette but they will kill you!!! alexa, first off congradulations on the quit! i have also felt the sadness, the not wanting to get up in the morning because you could not have that first smoke, but it does get better. when your feeling sad about not smoking take a very deep breath, doesn't that feel good, remember when you couldn't do that without coughing? my emotions have gone from one extreme to another, i just keep coming to this site looking at my quit meter, and thinking how can i be sad i have started adding days to my life, that is nothing to be sad about. hang in there, it will get better!!!! Great Job on deciding to quit! It is one hell of a roller coaster ride....think about it...your scared when you see this big roller coaster and all that it has to do but once you ride it you think WOW THAT WAS AWESOME. Well same thing here. You do feel good about the fact that you CHOSE not to smoke...it puts it into perspective when you realize that you do have control over your addiction. Hang in there a new day is coming!! [font=Comic Sans MS][color=Brown] Hey Alexa ! I am not so far away from where you are now so I can also relate. Right now, you are feeling the effect of breaking many years of a routine. It was something that you looked forward to. But like any addictive thing, it tricks you into feeling that you cannot go on without it. Remember that you are in withdrawal/ rehab and that it is hardest in the beginning. Pamper yourself right now. Drink lots of water or cranberry juice to help flush and clense your system. Don't skip any meals right now either.. you need to fight the changes with healthy intake. Your body is changing right now. Sleep as much as you feel you need to. I remember sleeping probably 3 extra hours a day for the first 2 weeks... Remember why you quit. Day by day, you will feel the effects of quitting. Your breathing will improve.. that is a dramatic feeling. The congestion you feel will be your body getting rid of years of builtup smoke crap.. You may feel dizzy or like the world is clouded for a while.. very normal. Eat some hard candy or some other snack when you get a craving. This really helps. I felt like a bag lady carrying around my bag of candy. I took it with me everywhere.. to be ready for anything. I don't carry it anymore.. BTW (I do crave redhots though.. lol) Wash your sweaters and jacket that may still have the stench of smoke. Clean out your car and get a nice freshener that you like. Smell your hand and hair.. they should be smelling like.. NOT SMOKE !! Get some new shampoo with some great smell.. BTW.. food is going to start tasting great soon.. Indulge a little but not too much.. (this will be suprising..) Just take it easy right now.. it will get better.. be positive.. you are a winner and have decided to stand up for yourself and your health.. Come and post as often as you need. Like golferman said.. there are stages that go with quitting and we will be here to help you through each and every one. Welcome and hang tuff.. you can do this.. one day at a time.. it gets easier too. Hi Alexa, Hope you are feeling better today. I did not take wellbutrin but I know that it takes a couple weeks for anti depressants to kick in. I am past the saddness of choosing not to smoke anymore, but I still feel some depression. I am like you and really don't want to start on anti depressants even though I have friends who say they really saved them. I am using the patch and it has been great for me. If you have gone 7 days without and Nrt I would not start now unless it was the difference between smoking or putting on a patch. Just remember that no matter what you use you will still have craves. They are tools to help take the edge off, but you still have to do alot of work yourself. You are never too old to quit. I am going to be 50 and I figure better late then never. If you really want this and it sounds like you do, you will get through it.
