Hi Determined! Glad you're here! You've come to a great place to quit. Lots of information and comrades. gpw My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 58 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 884 Amount Saved: $232 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 10 Mins: 56 Seconds: 1

Casey Regarding the instant messaging feature ... Is it safe to download to my computer? If I remember, it reads that somthing or other is not verified (or authorized or some such word). And then it wants me to download some other thing-a-ma-jig? That's when I "back off" and just say No to the rest of the download. If it wasn't such a "scary" way to load something onto my computer, I'd do it. But I just got my computer cleaned up and don't want anything on it that should not be there. Hope I am making myself a little bit clear about being afraid to load the SSC Instant Messenger. Annie P.S. Dear Determined to Quit. I'm in your shoes too. Just a "babe in the woods" trying to find the courage to get out of the forest. I keep bumping into the trees :) (or smokin' them ... take your pick) :) Hang in there and good luck Annie My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/16/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 0 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 0 Amount Saved: $0 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 0 Mins: 0 Seconds: 0

I just read the quote of the day in the glovebox and just had to come back and share it with you! :)
You can do what you want to do, accomplish what you want to accomplish, attain any reasonable objective you may have in mind - not all of a sudden, perhaps not in one swift and sweeping act of achievement - but you can do it gradually, day by day and play by play, if you want to do it, if you work to do it, over a sufficiently long period of time. ~~William Holler~~
If it's too much to think of forever, then don't! right now, just take it one day, one hour, one crave at time. Wake up in the morning and say "Just for today, I choose not to smoke". The days will add up. We CAN do this! The best wat to do that, determined, is to hook up on the SSC messenger, then trade e-mails so you can contact at other times. I'll log in now. Regarding the instant messenger, I have two machines at home. It works on one and doesn't on the other. Go figure. Honestly, your best bet is to come here anyway. There is nearly always someone here, and if you create a new thread and nobody responds, just respond to yourself -- that will bump it to the top. Also, a little trick that I didn't learn right away -- instead of reading from the first page of the forum, click on "Today's Active Discussions." That shows you every thread in chronological order (not by category). Congratulations everybody -- you're doing great!!! Determined, I would suggest that while you're working on the messenger thing, you might give this forum a try. There is always someone on. You should also read old posts and all the current posts. We are quite a family here. Some of us have figured out ways to exchange emails, but the real communication "meat" is this forum right here. Work the program tools to the left -- they will help you develop your plan and coping mechanisms. Good luck!
