Hi there, I have decided that the time has come! With new provincial legislation starting in May I am really beginning to feel like a leper. I have smoked for over 30 years and have many reasons for wanting to quit. No that's not true...I really don't want to quit but I know that I need to. I want to live to grow old with my husband and family. My sister died at 57 of lung cancer and yet I still smoke..stupid eh! Unfortunately, I enjoy it so that is where I am going to have trouble and need lots of support...please. I have chosen to make Apr 1 my quit date so that I can work up to it:-) I am thrilled to have an opportunity to visit this site for mutual support.

You go girl! With that name, you will succeed........ We all said "we liked smoking". That doesnt ring true now. How can we like poisoning ourself? How can we enjoy giving ourself cancer? How can we love emphezyma? I sure dont love stinking........... You really dont "like" it, you are just an addict. Welcome to our world. Its the addiction saying you enjoy it. Well that is about to change! Enjoy your new life! Put on your gloves and fight, fight fight........... You can do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep posting! Hope to follow your sucess!!! Dear Determined, I enjoyed it also although I can't say I enjoyed every one of the 20 cigarettes I had a day. I would say half were from habit. It is amazing how habits can be changed. I would like for you to get to the place in your mind where you can say I want to quit instead of I need to quit. I only say this because it will be so much easier for you if you think that way. Everyone is here to support you and if your name is any indication you are well on your way. welcome........sounds like you live in the fine province of Ontario. I hail from there, and even though I now live in Florida, I have heard of the decision the gov't has made (my Dad still smokes) Welcome aboard.....please use the time between now and April 1st to learn as much about this addiction as you can. Use the tools here, there is also an excellent book out by Allan Carr that a lot of folks here swear by.....one of the main forces behind my quit is self-education. Understanding the addiction and what it does to you. Good luck and again, welcome aboard!
