Everyone is different. 3galeh and I both watched what we ate and started exercise programs, and yet I gained 12 pounds and she didn't. Go figure!
Also, one factor often overlooked in this discussion is that smoking (the chemicals in cigarettes, that is) raise your adrenaline and burn at least 200 calories a day. So when you quit smoking, that's an extra 200 calories you need to burn ON TOP OF all the rest.
So, it's not easy...it can be very frustrating...but as 3galeh always says, it's worth it. My doctor says you are so much healthier not smoking, don't obsess about the extra poundage.
One more comment however to Ibanez. 6-8 pounds (or 12 pounds in my case) IS a big deal if it means you have to buy new clothes.
