7th Day in Hell

18 years ago 0 4 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi Jonser, I'm on my seventh day too. I know what you're going through. That said, we're doing much better than we were a week ago. Look at your first day being smoke free. Absolutely exhausting, trying to fight the urges, I know. I'm doing much better than I thought I would, going cold turkey. going through water like crazy! Jonser, you can do it - I'm at 9 days and can relate. I've read a lot over the past 9 days and Shevie has a lot of brilliant thoughts and insights into this whole thing. Shevie - wasn't it you who had researched what nicotine did to the brain & the reward part of your brain that shuts down over time from smoking? Sorry I'm not being very clear in repeating what I read today - am still having a hard time concentrating. But the seed of what was said is in here (my head) - and I keep thinking about it - thanks!

Hey jonser, I felt pretty lousy on day 7 too, but it was more of an 'in between heaven and hell' kinda of feeling. It was like I had just reached the proverbial hump in my week. There is a post about everybody's quit being different (you can read it HERE) and I have to agree here. We may have similar experiences but everyone will have a different thing going on according to the what when where how and why of their quit, and how much they smoked, how long they smoked, etc. The list goes on. There are no 2 identical quits. So don't be so hard on yourself. You are going through withdrawls. We all go through withdrawls. Use your tools jonser, you can stay strong and get through it. Reward yourself, like 4 says in her post above. You just need to do it, take responsibility and be good to yourself now that you've made such an amazing decision to live!! Enjoy the life you are now living, stay strong jonser!!! CONGRATS ON 7 DAYS!!!! THAT IS QUITE AN ACHIEVEMENT!!! :) :) :) Many Blessings, Eve C.A.R.E. The first week was the worst for me too. I remember the 6th and 7th days I spent mostly on the couch alternating between staring at the tv (but not really watching anything) and pulling the sheet over my head deep breathing and counting thru the craves. Lots of anger and tears that first week too. I love knowing that I will never have to go thru that again. I can honestly say that every day gets a little better. It's like every time I fight off the "gorilla" on my back he gets a little weaker for the next round. Sometimes he still comes at me with a gusto - but, he's not nearly as strong as he was in the beginning. It takes a long time to undo what we've done to ourselves... if you want to be a slave to the nicotine cravings for the rest of your life then you can give into the craves now... otherwise, do whatever you have to do to push thru the craves... take it one minute at a time. Drink water, go for a walk, read/post here. We know what you're going thru and we know that you can get past this - but, it's going to be up to you. Hang in there, k? Hey there Jonser, I'm sorry, I cannot relate to the "hell" that you've been feeling. I remember my 7th day. I was so happy. I felt good. My skin looked better. I smelt better. I could actually smell the shampoo in my hair. I could, fir the 1st time, sit and watch a movie. There are so many positives that you are forgetting to notice!! Stop fighting your addiction. Reach towards the bright side. But, you have to change your mind set. Sourround yourself with positives. Do and think positive. Buy a book on the subject. Listen to your fav cd's or create one of your own. Anything that is positive. The main factor: REWARD yourself. Again, if you just did. It is so important to do that, especially for the first month! I use my not smoking to NEVER deny myself anything. So I am rewarding myself all of the time. You can do this. Be strong and fight. Keep fighting. It is all well worth it in the end. Nothing comes easy. You need to want this. Re-read your reasons to quit. Make new commitments for when these craves come on. If you change them to a positive it will help boost your esteem. You will feel happier and lighter. No heavy weight on your shoulder (just a little one). The more power you give to your addiction, the more it has over you. Don't let it. Take the control back. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 44 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,340 Amount Saved: $143.88 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 14 Mins: 15 Seconds: 53

Josner...CONGRATS!!!! Look how long you have been true to yourself! You are no longer a slave to a pack of smokes! You have control of your life! Every day will get better! It took me 3 weeks before I stopped feeling like a space cadet! It has been 50 days and my mind is clear (well as clear as it can be since I have teenagers) and I am finding other things to do with my money! The world no longer hates me and I no longer hate everyone in the world. Hang tough! It gets better!! We have all had a day 7 at one time!! Take it one day at a time! By the way...when you smoked, yeah, you smelled just like your friends. Stale, stinky, nasty old cigarettes!! Congrats on taking back your life!! Way to go Jonser! I hope that you have rewarded yourself for being able to go over to your stinky friends home and NOT SMOKE! YOU DID GREAT!!! I went with some smoking friends on an out of town trip this weekend - didn't smoke either - but was voted the most spacey of all! And I have more than 50 days! So I don't think my concentration has gotten any better after all these days. Oh well, maybe that's my new personality trait...LOL Heres hoping for a better second week for you...any week not smoking is better than the alternative. Hang in there and N.O.P.E.! Hi Jonser, I know it's been a couble of hours since your post, and at the time of your post you want the answer right then, you just want it all to stop. You did the right thing by coming to the SSC to post and ask for help. Or you call a friend or family member that will walk you through and someone that won't be easy and get you a smoke but who will be supportive and yet tough. So many of us know what you are feeling and fighting. Believe me I was the poster child of quit. I didn't go through my first 45 days easy at all. I went kicking and screaming. You are in what I call both of the first two weeks HELL. I didn't find SSC till after my first 3 weeks. Then I started reading and learning on what to do. Please take what you read and use all the advice of the ones who have been through it. DRINK DRINK DRINK DRINK WATER!!!!!!! This helps to get those toxins out of your system faster then if you don't. Drink the water as much as you would smoke a cigarette. The other thing also that is true is the attitude of your quit. You feel like poop now but it will get better. But your attitude will help if you change it to looking at your quit as great and fighting the Demon with all you have. Take back the control as 4my2girls says. Her words have so much value to them. We are here for you Jonser. Just N.O.P.E.
