Chico..
I love your attitude.. and respect your choice not to use the patch.
I know what you mean about people watching .. same thing happened to me. I stormed off one night (2 days quit) and returned with candy instead of cigarettes like everyone expected. Nobody thhought I could do it.. nobody.. but poo on them.. they were wrong !!
It will only get better from here. Make plans for those free times you will have (times you used to smoke).. but don't spend too much time pondering on it. You have quit and now.. just face whatever happens head on and without fear.. nothing is going to happen except that you win this fight !!
Great luck .. post and come often.. we'll get through this ..

Chico...not only do I understand and appreciate what you are going through, I have been there myself. Most of the people in my life are non-smokers and none of them took me seiously when I said I was quitting either. When I began obtaining goals I set for myself no one saw the big deal in that either.
The purpose of this site is to support other quitters. We do understand and we are here to laugh, cry, yell, and celebrate with you. Four days quit is absolutely AWESOME and you should be proud.
Remember to take baby steps. You are in the middle of Hell week which is the hardest week of a quit. Things do get better but not for a while yet. Take a lot of deep breaths and drink tons of water. Be sure to look around the site and learn all you can about the quitting process. Anytime you are feeling alone, down or just need someone to talk to, post. That is why we are here and you will find that you are not alone.
Congratuations on your decision to quit. You are going to love being a quitter!

chico,
The others before me here have hit the nail on the head. Non smokers just don't get it. And as Dalooosh said, many non smokers see it as a weakness. We know better. Smoking is not a weakness but an addiction. It takes real effort and determination to break this addiction.
Quitters like us are alone for the most part. Other than this site, no one really cares. For years my wifes father ragged her about quitting. She is now quit. Did he even notice or mention anything about it when we visited him? Nope. He just took her quit for granted. Her feelings were hurt, but that is life. I'm sure that inside he appreciates her quitting, but a pat on the back and a kind word would have been nice. So we walk a lonely path. And when you think about it, quitting is a very personal thing so I guess it's only right that we really only have ourselves to know how great an accomplishment it really is.
Keep up the good work chico, we here at the SSC are all very proud of you!
