Como estas Chico, I have decided to tell only a select few that I have quit. That way the others will not have any concern. I have only asked the select few that I could also ask to pray for me. This is day 2 and Im doing ok. MM

Jan, Thanks for the support. I have been meaning to tell someone the story on how I got here and I guess your the lucky one. I had been planning on quitting since the first of the year and I set quit date was set for March 1, 2006, because it was ASH wednesday. I knew I could not do this by myself so I asked for God's intervention. I needed everyone for this job. Well I smoked prtty good until March 1st, and to be honest with you was not looking forward to that date, but it was a commitment. On March 1, 2006 on my way home from work, I looked like a train with all the smoke coming out of the cab of my truck. I had my last cigarette at about 5:00 pm on March 1, and went to ASH Wednesday Mass at 5:30pm. After church I went home, took all my cigarettes and lighters and threw them in the trash (crying all the time, just kidding). I did pretty good the following day, but on Friday, that was my first day off and I normally have like four cigarettes with my coffee. I knew that was not the way to go, so I turned on the computer and began looking for forums that might help, and that is how I found this one. Boy was I lucky. I have incorporated this site as part of my team to help me quit. Chico

Elle, Thanks for your encouraging words. It appears that we are quitting together (so cute), so every once in a while let me know how you are doing. If I can help please let drop me a line. Chico

Lady, You know the interesting thing, I am not really having that big of a problem quitting this time. I felt that this past weekend would be my most difficult but it really was not that hard. I did the same things I normally did, with one exception, I substituted this site in the mornings for my cigarettes. I don't need a patch or anything like that because that would be just one more crutch I could use to start smoking again. Example: I forgot my patch this morning and had to revert back to smoking. I am determined to beat this thing this time. Chico

This is day four of my quit, and I feel that people are just watching to see if I am serious. People seem not to care, so I have to do this alone. Most of my friends as well as my family are non smokers and don't see the big deal. This site is helping me out a great deal because everyone her understands and appreciates what I am going through.

hi chico, i know where you are coming from. most of my friends don't smoke and they have no idea what i'm going through. i actually didn't tell anyone this time because i don't want them to make me feel like im gonna fail. im doing it for myself and not anyone else. it's the hardest thing ive ever done in my life and i know it will get easier. hang in there. we are all in it together. all of us here are in the same boat. Most non-smokers view smoking as a weakness in my opinion, and never take a smoker seriously when they say they're quitting, almost laughing at them behind the heel of their hand, saying stuff like, "I give 'em two weeks". It's true, they really don't care , or uderstand how difficult it can be for someone who has been hooked one most addictive substances on this planet for 20 some odd years to try and better themselevs and give it up. although these are the same people who will praise an actor for putting him/herself into rehab for an addiction to Oxycontin, and say stuff like "I give them credit", or "good for them". Because cigs are "not a drug" (yeah right) , they think, "well, how difficult can it be". Well I feel better after getting that rant off MY chest. I hope I don't sound TOO crazy. Anyway, stay stong, and you are right. It's all you, none of "them" will be there for you.But- you always have us here.

Hey Chico. Great job on being quit!. This is really all about you and there can be no one, none of us, the people who are going through a quit, that can know or even identify the anguish and the pain that goes into your quit, because it is your quit. Each one of us is an individual, no one started exactly the same , no one has lived the same life and no one will quit the same. For me the main thing that we share is how fragile the thread is, and how strong the will is, this equals courage. I hope that you are proud of your quit! I hope that you reward yourself and realize how loving and kind you are to yourself in making this quit stick. I hope that you acknowledge and pat yourself on the back for giving yourself back your life.
