Same as Lady, My Mother said the exact same things. Browneyesblue, it pays to remember that smokers are basically terified of us.....they can't comprehend life after smoking ! I've ditched my smoking friends.... i got sick of them trying to push thier so called 'habit'& guess what... they are now non-smokers to. ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 425 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10,639 Amount Saved: $2762.5 Life Gained: Days: 60 Hrs: 23 Mins: 21 Seconds: 1

Browneyesblue... These people are threatened by your quit. They see you doing what they wish they had the courage to do. When I quit, the lady I use to smoke with stood outside my office window and blew cigarette smoke at me. There still a couple of people that ask if I want a cigarette when they see me. As far as friends go, none of my friends smoke, Thank God. Hang in there and congratulations on your 33 days. You are doing great! Be careful being around smokers especially when you are drinking. You must protect your quit at all cost. Gaby...here's one for you. When I told my mom I quit (she's a 2-3 pack a dayer) She asked me "Why" and anytime I was down she would say... OH just go smoke and get over it! Nice huh? It does last and I love the freedom. Don't give in no matter what anyone says. Friends, Family, Co-Workers.... who cares. Go for the freedom. There isn't anything like it! My smoker friends have been very supportive. But two weeks ago we were out and I was the only one at the table who didn't smoke. The smoke was so thick I couldn't breathe. I thought I was going to have to go outside and get a breath of fresh air. I kept thinking, Please stop smoking I can't breath. I am just glad I no longer smoke, and I take it one day at a time.

These smoking "friends" are addicts, and as such they would be more comfortable with you if you would just give up and smoke. Your quit makes them feel threatened. I don't actually know a smoker that doesn't wish they were quit.....oh yeah, they will tell you they 'want' to smoke....they 'love' to smoke....etc. you and I both know that smokers are nicotine addicts and smoking is ONE thing....feeding that addiction. You justify it with I 'love it' and I 'want to smoke' cause you HAVE to keep feeding that monkey. It runs your life. The only way out is to break it off totally. When your friends offer a smoke, say yeah...take it and then crush it.....smile and say "oops, I don't know what came over me"....a couple of time of this and I bet they quit offering smokes. I feel that real friends are supportive and wouldn't do this. brown, This is common. Try to avoid situations that will tempt you and distract yourself with coping mechanisms. You can do this and 1 month is amazing! If they are your friends they will respect your choice for a healthier you. Give it time and maybe some of them will join you on your journey :) Keep Strong, Josie ______________________ The SSC Support Team.
