I quit smoking yesterday after 13 years of smoking. Found this website today. I am hoping that it will help me! This is much harder than I had anticipated! I am eating everything in sight and I am unable to concentrate. Please tell me this gets easier! Hi Cassilon and welcome... Quitting is one hell of a journey dear one. And if you are ready to stop smoking, and live each day by the word: N.O.P.E. (not one puff ever) you can do this. There is an amazing amount of info on this site (read the posts here) that has been a powerful help to me. Stay close, protect your Quit, and hang on tight. Welcome Cassilon !! Great decision ! The first few days are the hardest. You are in nicotine withdrawl and your mind and body are going through some real changes. The fog is normal.. that means you are quitting right.. lol Some tips : 1. Pamper yourself especially for the first week. Eat well, don't skip any meals.. your body needs the fuel..smoking is hard work. Sleep as much as your body and mind tells you to.. it may be that you feel tired.. don't fight it. Drink lots of water and cranberry-type juices to help flush the nicotene out of your system. 2. Clean out your car/truck and never smoke in there again.. Wash your coats and sweaters.. they retain the smoke smell .. smell your hair.. and hands.. they are natural and clean now :) 3. Get some hard candy.. it will help you get through cravings.. put some in your car too... it will come in handy.. 4. take it one moment, one hour or one day at a time.. 3 days to detox.. tea is wonderful.. 5. Put the money you would normally spend on smokes in a jar everyday! Use the money for pick me ups or for a bigger reward later. OWWW... MONEY !! 6. Come here and post often.. and don't think about smoking all the time.. ignore it as much as possible.. when you get a craving.. do anything until it passes.. (3 min. maximum on cravings). 7. Stay close by.. and do not go to places that you associate with smoking.. no bars or back alleys(lol).. you know.. avoid the temptation.. 8. If you find something on this site or another that you really like and it makes you feel positive about quitting.. print it out.. read it often. 9. Stay Postitive !!! You are going to be one of those envied people soon.. THE NON-SMOKERS of the world !! You can do this.. hang Tuff !!! Ditto - it does get easier. If it didn't there wouldn't be any "old-timers", we wouldn't see any impressive Quit Meters! Live here at this site, drink LOTS of water (helps much with cravings), surf the net looking for all of the anti-cigarette sites you can find and read them. You may find that after reading you'll never, ever want one of those nasty things again. This is pretty much what I did. Give it a try, mold it to your own preferences and remember that when you have a craving that it is NOT YOU who wants the cigarette, it is your addiction. Choose NOT TO FEED IT. Keep ignoring it and YOU WILL GET STRONGER. Glad you're here, keep coming back! gpw My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 68 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,029 Amount Saved: $272 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 8 Mins: 19 Seconds: 48

Cassilon...It does get easier. It takes a while but you can do it. Be sure to check out the program tools to the left and develope a plan for when the cravings hit. Quitting isn't easy but is worth it. Take it one step at a time. Drink a lot of water and take some deep breaths when the going gets tough. Congratulations on your decision to quit and welcome to our quit family! It does get easier. And it is also soooo worth it. And it really is possible. A year ago, it was almost impossible to believe that I would EVER not have cigarettes on my mind. Well, I am here to tell you that despite the misery of the first week, the mind games of the second week, the blahs of the third week...it is not only doable, it is fabulous. The support and info here is incredible and the freedom is delicious!!!!
