You are a Super Star. My hubby smokes and is not quitting with me right now. It is hard to know they linger in the vacinity when you want one. I am not going cold turkey, so I am arming myself with a lozenge. Thankfully, he smokes outside ONLY. We both did. We have kids and they don't know we smoked. IE - we both were closet smokers. I couldn't imagine how difficult it is having a chain smoker while going cold turkey. Pat yourself on the back ALL THE TIME! I hope you can keep to one "smoke free" zone (a room?) when you need to flee to let the temptation go by. Is your Mom supportive of you wanting to quit? I am using the Commit Lozenge and they sent an email to give my supporter - my smoker hubby. This is one of the points in the letter giving him ideas to help me and I hope you could use something in it to give to your Mom in helping you. 8. You may feel a bit awkward that she is stopping when you aren't. This is natural. Ask her to share with you why she is committed to stopping. This will reinforce your commitment to help her succeed. Feel good about supporting her. Helping her to give up cigarettes is a great gift. Text I sure hope your Mom may see a way to encourage and not feel bad about her smoking while she does. Many prayers for you on this one.

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi all, i am new to the board. I quit a couple of years ago for 6 months and stupidly started again after a silly argument with my boyfriend. Anyway i have quit again and this time i want it to be the final time. I feel mentally ready for it and the road ahead.Almost! So far i've been off them a week tomorrow BUT the one thing that I find so hard is living with my mother who is a chain smoker. I'm not in a position to move out at the moment but i'm also not sure that I can get through this with all the smell of smoke going on in the house. I do try and get out as much as possible and find it so much easier when i'm not at home but i loose my patience with her and this happened the last time i quit as well. I suppose resent her a little due to the fact she hasn't even tried to give up and after a day at work i come home and feel all my good work is almost undone as i start to fret about the smell etc. Just wondered if anyone had any similar experiences, if so how do you cope with them?! Thanks for any tips because i need them ! :)

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi Polly and congrats on getting this far! I am lucky in that no one in my family smokes so I cannot draw on my own experience. I wondered though if it is possible to spend less time in the house i.e. going out more often say to a non smoking friend or if it is practical to have at least 1 room that is designated as a non smoking room that you could retreat to (preferable with TV etc in it). I realise that this is not ideal as you are shutting yourself off from the rest of the family. I hope that you find a solution. Hi olly welcome to SSC! My husband is a smoker luckily out in the garage but the smell does still come in the house and he does not feel that he needs a shower before bed so I get to smell it on my bedding and on his breath when he breaths on me. I can't tell him to quit and when I tell him he smells like smoke he tells me it is in my head. We all know better but I love him and hope that I will inspire him to quit. I make sure I tell him my stats all the time. You have a week under your belt which is amazing and you should feel proud Hell week is not easy with or with out a smoker in your life. take some time and go thru the tools to the left they are very helpful in your quit and stay as close to this site as you can the people here are great and we all have a common bond we have all quit the nic. Good luck Polly My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/2/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 50 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,365 Amount Saved: $185 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 22 Mins: 2 Seconds: 20

olly, I've just been away on holiday to Chamonix in France - where everybody smokes, including my mates. I did manage to survive the week without smoking. It can be done. It will be tough. If you REALLY want it - you can make it - I really believe that. Olly....many here quit with a smoker in the house.....it does make it a bit tougher, but it can be done. Keep in mind the quit is for YOU, it doesn't matter what your mate/parent is doing. Hopefully you can both have a smoke free area in the home....a quitter really does need that....a room where they can feel safe and "away" from the temptation as well as some of the smell. I quit with my hubby still smoking.....I didn't nag at him and I didn't even demand that he smoke outside....I just removed myself from the room if he lit up. Within a week, he quit smoking in the house....within 3 months he quit smoking!!! smokers watch quitters......so do your best to set a good example....and remember that nagging at them will only make them more determined. Just concentrate on YOUR quit and make the comments about YOU....with a bit of luck, these smokers in your life just may decide if YOU can do it, so can they!
