Hey Bean Welcome aboard. Congratualtions on your decision to quit, that's a big step in itself. I'm not using the patch, so I can't offer any advice there, but do wish you the best with your quit. Come here and post any time you need or want to, we love to hear from everyone. Also, look for the posts from the February 06 Quitters Club, we are officially the "Knights of the Empty Ashtray"! Have a great day tomorrow and let us know if you need anything Sheila My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/4/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 17 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 530 Amount Saved: $85 Life Gained: Days: 1 Hrs: 10 Mins: 11 Seconds: 2

Hi Bean, I am also on the patch. The only thing I can add is to place the patch in a different place each day so that the skin does not become too irritated in one place and also to put it in places of lean tissue so that the nicotine is absorbed more easily (e.g. not on your butt). At least being a late starter means that you have not screwed up your body as much as us long term smokers. Bean, I used the patch for 4 wks, the stronger ones for a week, middle ones for 2 wks, and last stage for 1 wk. A couple times I forgot it and slept with it on. Had a couple wild dreams, but otherwise no problems. Hang in there, you CAN do this. Good luck and stay strong!!! Hey Bean (great name btw) - congrats on your decision to quit - way to go!! One of the best things you can do to support your quit IMO is to check into this forum several times a day, especially in the first few days: the support here is priceless!! Bean, My Doc. had me on the 21mg to start for 4 weeks. Then I was on 14mg for 2 weeks, then 7mg for 2 weeks. I only have 2 patches (days) left. You probably smokED less than me, so I would definately follow directions on box unless your Doc tells you differently. Keep going Bean, you're doing great. Posting your concerns and questions is the way to go. Welcome Aboard Bean. Nothing seems crazy to us here. We have all done stupid, crazy things all in the name of Nic. I am on the patch, and will be ending it in 3 or 4 days. My suggestion is follow the directions precisely the way your Doctor or the box describes. I found from a previous "quit" with the patch, I had bad dreams. This time I took it off 1/2 hour before bed and never had a problem. You may also get alot of redness and itching wherever you put the patch, but it usually goes away in 1/2 hour. Use the tools availiable on this site and post often. You will find lots of support here. Keep Strong.
