Thanks for all the responses - you are right checking in and reading all the posts really helps - now into day 2 - last night was tough - I usually have a glass of wine, watch the tube and puff. Well 2 out of 3 isn't bad (wine and tube). Question about the patch - it says at this stage to wear the 14mg for 8 weeks - then go down to the next level - is that the right amount of time? Thanks for all the feedback - so far not going to badly - the patch I'm on is only supposed to be worn for 16 hours - taken off at night and new one in the morning - I had heard about the bad dreams. Funny thing this morning - slathered on the body lotion - then realized I had no place to put the patch - note to self - patch before lotion. Why did I start? Relocated to Ontario from BC to a new job - most of my coworkers were smokers and a lot of work got done over smoke breaks - so I just joined in. That seems to be the hardest part - not going down for smoke breaks. Again thanks for the welcome and the suggestions / Bean

I started smoking at age 48 (I know seems crazy) now 7 years later I have vowed to quit starting tomorrow. I will be using a patch. Any advise will be gratefully accepted.

Bean, Welcome to the site and congratulations on becoming an ex-smoker! It is great to hear that you are ready to quit! The question is are you prepared? Please take advantage of our free Online Treatment Program in your glove compartment as you log into our site. This program will first help you determine if youre ready to quit. If youve already quit and are looking for some help, this program is for you. Although the program will first assess if youre ready to quit the exercises at the beginning of the program will help remind you of the reasons why you quit in the first place. Dont get frustrated - ex-smokers have told us that the exercises at the beginning of the program gave them confidence and helped them reaffirm their personal commitment to remain smoke free. The exercises in this program are divided into six major milestones. Think of each milestone as a destination youre trying to reach. After you complete the exercises in each milestone, your car will progress along the road map located at the bottom left-hand side of the screen. The best thing about this program is that it is free and you dont have to purchase any products to use this program. We hope that we have guided you in the right direction today! Please feel free to contact our support department in our feedback section found at the bottom of this page if you continue to have any questions or concerns. Or, please continue to join us here at our online support group! We wish you all the best and look forward to helping you achieve your goals! Melanie _______________________ The SSC Support Team

I am a recent quitter too! I am using the lozenge and I like it. It gives me something other than gum. I tried the patch but my skin reacted. I hope that you are doing OK with that. And yes, I hear your note to self regarding the lotion. TEEHEE. I would have done that one had I used it longer than three days. :) Good luck and keep strong. As for all the work getting done on the smoke break. . . I found I took a smoke break to get a work break. Infact, I think that is what I am supposed to do - take an actual break from work - destress and be more productive during actual working times. Don't look at missing the "power - smoking break" as a loss of producivity. Take your break to recharge you! I am giving myself permission now to take ten minutes of ME time. I am reading a great book that I wouldn't have fit into life otherwise. Hi Bean. Congratulations on your decision to quit! I am currently using the patch. My advice would be like everyone elsestake off the patch before going to sleep and place in a different spot each day. I have had a ton of crazy dreams when I slept with it on. Also, remember that Phase One of the patch is basically used to get over the mental part of the addiction. Then Phase Two comes in to help wean you from the Nicotine. Nonetheless, you have decided to do one of the most important thing and that is to be healthier!!
