I cant talk or think straight..its been a month since I quit

I quit smoking on January 7th. My husband has coronary artery disease and smoking contributes to causing it. He had surgery and we both agreed to quit. This is not the first time we've tried and I can remember feeling unable to concentrate and not think right in the past. I am using Wellbutrin this time to assist me thru withdrawal and I feel much better. I am told that when you smoke it causes your brain to release dopamine. Wellbutrin also does this without the nicotine, etc. I would suggest you ask a doctor for a prescription as it and the patch are helping me succeed this time. My thoughts seem to get all jumbled up, when i talk I talk really fast, cant even understand what I'm saying half the time myself...cant imagine what other people are thinking...strange Quit symptom eh...I actually smoked a cigarette today because I had to meet with a "VIP" type person and was worried about jumbling my words and sounding like an idiot....it worked...but i'd rather not start smoking again...any ideas...ever heard of this?

Hi, nicotine. I read your other thread, too, and here's my take on it. Being Alabama born and raised, I completely understand the slow talking part. Used to drive my New York born and raised ex-boss up a wall (snicker). Never have really trusted people who talk faster than anyone can listen. Then I quit smoking. :8o: For the first two weeks my thoughts were a jumble, my speech was a jumble, the two jumbles didn't match. What a mess! Luckily, I didn't have to deal with any customers on the phone (thank you, my coordinators) and I could do everything else by e-mail. But after that things settled down. You didn't say if this was a continuous thing, or if it just started, but I'm guessing it is a symptom of the 30-day hump. Something happens to many quitters that makes things rough right around the 30-day mark. Don't have a clue what it is, but there's enough antecdotal evidence to know it does happen. Do not smoke anymore, for any reason. The nicotine has been out of your system for almost a month. Reintroducing it just restarts the addiction/withdrawal processes. You've been there, done that. Why on earth would you want to do it again? If this is something that just recently started, I suggest you just wait it out for a week. If it doesn't clear up, then maybe you should see your doctor. If it has been continuous, you should see your doctor. Sometimes smoking masks symptoms of other things. I basically think that smoking cessation causes insanity and misery in all forms. However, it is totally worth it...but it takes time for the poisons to get out of your system and for normalcy to return. Having said that, the only the ONLY the ONLY way to quit smoking is to quit smoking. Your smoking today is taking several steps backward in getting the nicotine out of your system. Don't do it again for ANY reason. Someone once likened it wanting a short tailed dog and cutting off your dogs tail a little at a time. A miserable way for your dog to get to be short tailed! Don't be that cruel to yourself. Don't prolong the agony of withdrawal. Stick to your commitment NO MATTER WHAT!
