1 day down, forever to go

Thanks to all of you who responded. Today is my second day and the support from your responses has helped me so much! When looking at the withdrawl symptoms, the worst to hit me yet is the "out of it" feeling. Did any of you go through this? I am a social worker and I need to be alert for my clients. Will this feeling end?!!! I am scared, nervous, but also really proud of myself that I actually got through one day-so far!

Hi Rylan, Thanks for your post yesterday. Just got through my first day too. Didn't realise how many trigger moments I have in a day (Haven't drank so much water in ages either). But everyones kind words have made me determined to keep going.

Dont be scared. You are empowering yourself. The first day is always the most difficult. Every day thereafter gets a little easier. Just keep telling yourselfI am an ex-smoker. I am in charge of my precious life. The out of it, space caddet, nut job, feelings left me on the fifth day. since then its been getting easier and I can concentrate easily now. you will probably loose the ability to speak in complete sentences for a few days. I know I did. Remember you have made it threw the hardest day and you will be so much better off in the long run. be proud of yourself. Hi Rylan, I feel so much better on my eighth day!! It will go away, have faith in that. I'm in the want to eat everything in sight mode right now, that's not good for me either, but as my Momma always says, "This too shall pass." Rylan, It may seem so long now - I'm at 9 days, a couple of them were tough but looking back from the 9th I can't believe how fast it has gone by. There are so many good people here & they will all help support you! I log on during the day but can't respond due to my restrictions at work - but just reading helps me through many moments. You've made the right decision - and this site can help you in many ways - all the best to you - and you ARE doing the right thing!

Rylan, You be proud and you strut your stuff. What a great decision you have made. You won't be sorry!!!! Yes, these next first weeks will be challengeing but be prepared and do all possible to have by you all the coping items that you think will help you get through. You will find many a post here with all kinds of ideals to help. My big help was sunflower seeds, and straws. Drink lots and lots of water. You will hear this a lot and it's the truth. It will help to get those toxins out of your system faster and the struggle to not last as long. You will still get cravings but not the withdrawel as long as it will be if you don't drink the water. Good luck and know that you have a whole world of non-smokers standing by to help you through.
