GPW, I think one of the beauties of this site is that we ARE strangers and as such, we don't have to worry what others here think of us because the chances of us running into each other on the street are pretty dang slim! And if we did, we wouldn't know it so it doesn't really matter. But I understand what you're saying there too. Right now, I think you're going through the 30-day pit a little early. I know in that stage, I was so apathetic to my quit, I didn't care whether I smoked or not! It's normal to feel this way at this point in the quit. It sounds like you're pretty angry. GREAT! Be angry at the cigarettes for robbing you of your health and money! Be angry at the tobacco companies for lying to you and doing everything they could to make sure you got addicted! It's OK to be mad and it's OK to yell at us. We can take it and you don't even have to apologize for it! How's that for a benefit! You've got a great quit going! Almost 1/4 of the way to the beach! Congratulations! Crave the Quit! GPW, why are you stressing so much over things you have no control over? This study: Who did the research, who funded it, did you find out about it on the Internet? I remember in the 70's all the studies done on marijuana. For every study that said it was dangerous, there was another that said it was safe. Just depended on who was paying for it and what their agenda was. A doctor you've described as "whack-o" diagnoses something without running the tests required to make a proper diagnosis and now you're wondering if he was right? Why? If you're concerned, then go to a doctor you trust and get another opinion. Have the tests run. And while you're at it, I suggest you discuss these feelings you're having with the doctor, too. Hi there :) Learn to be thankful for your past :) If it weren't for the past you wouldn't be where u are now. So don't regret the past. But for today,,,STOP thinking about the past! And don't worry about the future :) You're very new in your quit and just starting your new fresh ("new u") life. That's plenty to do today :) It's the junkie in you that's messing with your head because the junkie in you wants u to die. So for now, stick with us today,,,us as in people who really care about you :) Hang in there and you'll make it through today :) I did it,,,so can you. I promise you that it will get better. Just stay outta the past and outta the future. Just stay in today and the moment,,,breath deep, scream, beat up your pillow, cry, sleep, pray,,,,do whatever it takes to get through today. No matter what don't lite up... Keep on keepin on... Hi GPW, I just read your post. From reading what you wrote on the 7th and then the 8th, its pretty obvious youre on the rollercoaster. Im no doc, but my best friend is a psychologist, so Ive had built-in support during my quit. Go to the health food store, and tell the vitamin expert that youre looking for something for depression. Theyll probably recommend something similar to BeCalmd. As far as your lungs are concerned, no report will ever make me believe that cells that are no longer being filled with poisons are not healthier than those that are. We may not be able to repair all the damage weve caused over the years, but we can give it our best shot. I understand the anger and the depression youre going through. Most of us have asked ourselves how in h*** we could have continued smoking for so long. Its the addiction! While we smoked, we looked the other way when smoking info was discussed, never watched the anti-smoking commercials, and avoided conversations about quitting. Now that weve quit, we can finally see clearly what this terrible addiction has done to us. This new understanding is something we just have to learn to get past so that we can move on to our new smoke-free lives. Your husbands smoking is something I couldnt cope with easily. Dont think Id be very tolerant of someone smoking in my house after having worked so hard to quit. Some members have designated smoking areas in their house to deal with a spouse who smokes. Others have a totally outside only rule. Youll have to figure out what works best for you and work it out with your husband. Do not worry overmuch about your mindset at the moment. Duffis once wrote a post that mentioned having the mind of a rutabaga at the beginning of your quit. He was right. On day 50, youll feel much better, and on day 75, youll feel even better than that. Youre doing great. Not cravin', never cavin'. gpw, believe me I have been there. You haven't lost your mind. But the detoxification from all the chemicals can play funny tricks on you and make you think you have. Please feel free to bring your "black cloud" here if you want to, because we can handle it. We have all been through or are going through our own big issues, and I'm sure we can relate to yours as well. If it doesn't lift or begin to abate, may I suggest a little talking therapy? I had 4 or 5 sessions, paid for by the employee assistance program where I work. These really helped me a lot.
