Ever forget you quit?!

18 years ago 0 52 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hello Olly, I'm hardly long term but every morning before I go to work I make sure I have everything I need. Every morning I have to remind myself that I don't have cigs because I quit. Its been 15 days and I have the usual ups and downs. Good luck to you on your quit and I really hope this disappears for you. But really, weren't you a little glad when you discoved that you really didn't need that reward? But the question I have is did you reward yourself with something else? Hope everything goes well with you! Hey Olly, I'm a real newbie (3 days into this journey) but yeah, it's been happening to me a lot. At least 3 - 4 times at work today! Same thing, I used to finish something and "reward" myself w/ a smoke break. I have to constantly remind myself that I don't do that any more!! Same when I get in the car. Still looking for that pack of cigs. Hopefully, this will get better as time goes on. Like you, it will probably rear it's ugly head once in a while still, but at least not multiple times each day like it is now!! Congratulations on staying quit for 34 days!!! That's awesome!! You ROCK!! Don't panic... be PROUD!! Thanks for the support all, someone asked if I rewarded myself with something else. Well I thought I'd come on to this site and post the question to others! Then I carried on working. Hmm, come to think of it, it's possible I may be more productive now i've quit. I'm not winding down to the next smoke break and saying 'oh i'll finish that after a smoke'. Yet another positive of quitting! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi again, I was just sitting here in work and not even thinking about smoking for most of the day and wham! I'm on day 34 of my quit and it's been a rough ride on and off. Good and bad times like everyone else. BUT, something just happened there that hasn't happened since the first few days... i just thought, yeh i've worked hard all morning, i'll go for a smoke break now! I don't know if i'm shocked that this came into my head or more shocked when i realised i couldn't go and 'reward' myself with a smoke. I panicked a little I have to say but think it's passing now. Any of the long term quitters get forgetful sometimes? How long does this last cos I thought I was over this part of it! Cigarettes Not Smoked

Olly, I came home the other night and was going streight to the computer, this used to be a major smoke place for me. I put my purse down and started rummaging through it to find my pack of cigs. They weren't there, haven't been there for over a month, don't know what triggered that. I didn't even want a cig or have a crave at the moment, it just happened. I also had a freind quit a few years ago and several months in to his quit he would still push in the car lighter as soon as he got in to his vehicle. This whole smoking thing has so many side-effect habits, it's just going to take a while for them all to break. I've just been laughing off this kind of thing, tell myself how stupid-silly it was for me to forget a thing like the fact that I've quit smoking. Better to laugh it off than to let it become a crave. Keep up the quit Sheila ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/4/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 45 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,364 Amount Saved: $225 Life Gained: Days: 3 Hrs: 15 Mins: 50 Seconds: 17

Olly... Yep. I've forgotten I quit before. One time I kept reaching for my smokes on the counter. They weren't there so I was looking for them. This was actually a few months into my quit. When I first quit I keep checking to make sure I had my cigarettes with me. It's kind of funny when you stop and think about it. The mind is a terrible thing isn't it? :p Congratulations on your 34 days! You are doing great! Hi, Olly. Congratulations on 34 days smoke-free. Once, when I was quit about where you are, someone posted a question about cigs; how many in a pack, I think. Anyhow, I caught myself with my fingers in my shirt pocket trying to pull out a pack to look at it, LOL. I was really surprised that the mechanisms to cause that reflexive action were still in place. Never happened again, though. What you're experiencing is common for the point you're at. I think what is happening is that you've been quit so long it's being relegated more to the subconcious which hasn't been as reprogrammed away from smoking as the concious has been. This is a good thing because it's a sign you're "settling in" to being quit. You may experience some disappointment at not being able to comply with the desire to smoke. Ignore it. Don't panic, don't worry. Just ignore. It will go away. Keep up the good quit, Olly. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 302 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,049 Amount Saved: $1147.6 Life Gained: Days: 56 Hrs: 9 Mins: 19 Seconds: 58

olly, 34 days is awesome! These feeling and thoughts are normal and will happen once in awhile. Grab a coping mechanism and shove it to the curb. Keep Strong, Josie _____________________ The SSC Support Team.
