Hello Everyone! I just found this site today, and so far it's great. I have set a date to quit smoking on Jan. 28/06! Being new, can anyone help me with the site, and give any advise for the 1st day of quitting? I have quit before once for 6 months, and the other times usually I don't make it past either 2 to 3 days or a week. Any suggestions? Thank you Hope to hear from you

Hi Jessica! Well done on setting a date to quit. As others have said, use the program here - I went through it a week after I had quit, as I only just found it, and found it very useful. It will help you to think of *why* you want to quit, mechanisms for coping with those horrible ol' cravings, how to prepare for quitting, how you are going to reward yourself after a week, a month, etc.- plus you can have a daily record of how you are getting on once you do quit. There are some wonderful ideas there, and the answers you gave can be revisited to remind you of them! Also, post in th4ese forums whenever you feel tempted... looking at what has been written here, they are non-judgemental, friendly, and (for some people very important) anonymous, unlike your friends, who you might be embarrassed to admit you felt tempted. Many of us have quit more than once... the important thing is that you want to quit, and you keep trying... this will be the time you succeed! Hi Jessica, i'm six days quit and occupying myself by doing absolutly anything other then smoke.....basically anything that takes attention away from having a butt and also saying to myself - IS IT THAT IMPORTANT, IT'S NOT SOMETHING I NEED AND THE CRAVING WILL PASS. just trust that you can do it. will you crave.....absolutly, but when that craving hits do something - anything - other then smoke. be strong, you can do it!! good luck My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/19/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 78 Amount Saved: $21 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 10 Mins: 50 Seconds: 6

Hi Jessica, I have set my date the same as yours, and have been preparing for almost 3 weeks. I haven't posted yet, but I have already gotten some very valuable advice just by reading the emails, and I know this site will be invaluable after 1/28 (as it already has been). GOOD LUCK! I'll start posting on the 30th, so lets keep in touch - we CAN do this! NSA girl

Take the next few days leading up to your quit to prepare yourself. Make sure to get your head in the game too. Think about all the reasons you want to quit...think about them a lot. Remind yourself of all the benefits of not smoking. Rehearse in your mind. Imagine yourself in all sorts of situations...imagine yourself there NOT SMOKING. Think about all the times when you would typically smoke...now picture each one of those scenarios as a non-smoker. Look around, what's ahead of you, what do you smell, what do you see, how do you feel, take a deep breath, smile...imagine yourself in every situation as a non-smoker. Visualize the new, healthier, happier you. See the new, free you. Smile. Like Casey said you need a plan. A plan of attack for this horrible addiction. Use these 3 days until your quit day to really figure out your strengths, weaknesses, and triggers. My plan was- This site.Telling everyone I was quitting. Buying paint for my house and painting my bathroom. Cleaning everything in sight. Keep busy, busy, busy. Go to doc too and see if an NRT would also help. We are here for you. :)redrosie My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 24 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 586 Amount Saved: $199.2 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 9 Mins: 5 Seconds: 25

Hi Tony, nice to meet you. I guess what gets to me sometimes is my self doubt. Hoping that I can do this forever. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it really makes me stop and think about how much I really want this and how much I deserve to not have this addiction always in my life. How are you doing ? Do you have these doubts sometimes too? :)redrosie My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 24 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 586 Amount Saved: $199.2 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 9 Mins: 8 Seconds: 28
