Bambi, Looks like your doing a good job with your quit, so hang in there. I think if you can get to this site as much as you can you can get all the encouragement you need and from people who understand and appreciate what you are going through. I will be watching for your posts because your quit date and mine are almost alike. Riverdale, My fear is the ridicule I get from people. There first statement is "yes" sure you quit. None of them say the right things like they do on this site. I do not know what I would have done without this site. People here understand and are sincere with their encouragment. chico

christine, You could be right in that the reason I don't announce that I have quit smoking is because I have left myself an out. If I fail people won't judge me so harsh. Well I am doing this quit all alone with the exception of this forum, which is helping me a great deal. I have not told anybody I quit, nor do I intend to. It is been my experience that they don't really care. The people who have never smoked think that you brought it upon yourself and think your dumb for smoking in the first place. The smokers say they want you to quit, but say it is ok not to. I tell you how wierd it is. Today I played golf with friend of mine, whom I have known all my life and have smoked with all that time also. We played for 8 hours together. He smoked liked a train and not once did he notice that I did not smoke the entire time we were playing. I did not tell him. This forum is the only one that knows that I quit or that I tell or brag about that I quit. Thank you all for your support. Chico Congratulations on 9 now 10 days. Congratulations on coming into this site an voicing your frustrations, concerns speaking about the places and people that really get to you. Vent all you like because in your vent I get to identify, I get to move along with you and hopefully as we move along we get to a place where we can celebrate. I too have told very few people out there, the people in my world that I have quit. Not so much because I am afraid of failure, but because I am afraid of how angry I will get and how much I will want to smoke and be really nasty to myself when they don't understand, make little or simple ignore that fact that what I am doing is one of the most major and challenging battles that I will have in my life. Not all to rational but I know that that is one of the ways that I operate. Cudos on your quit. Congratulations, I hope you are celebrating. I know where you are coming from Chico. My kids and one friend knew I quit but no one else. I read my kids the riot act about even asking me about it.. and my friend who wanted to amke up new stupid things to say everytime he saw me.. I told off as well. I was mad at everyone and wanted no one's input. I think that I didn't want to have to answer to anyone.. in case I didn't make it.. I wouldn't get any .. I told you so's. When I was really sure.. I announced it like I had just cured cancer.. with the full.. look at me.. I am shiny !! 9 days and you are well on your way.. when you are ready.. you can announce your new strength without fear. Congratulations on your quit. I know what you mean. I did'nt tell some people until I was farther into my quit and some people I don't talk to about it at all. I am like you and come here to talk about it and read what is going on with everyone else. Anyway it does'nt really matter what our friends think. All that matters is that we are non smokers and we are doing it for ourselves. Chico...Vent away. That is exactly what this forum is for. People who have never smoked simply cannot understand the withdrawal process and everything we go through when we quit. People who are still smoking can't relate either because the blinders are still on. We are here to celebrate with you, laugh with you, cry with you and support you. Few quitters find people outside of the quitting circle that understand what is going on. Don't let the fact that your friend didn't notice you quit discourage you. Be proud. You have 9 days under your belt and that is AWESOME! You have made it through hell week and are almost through heck week. Those are two of the hardest weeks of anyone's quit. You are making it and that is something you can hold your head high about. Vent away any time you need to. Proudly strut those stats as you do so. Hi, Chico. Congratulations on your 9 days quit. :) About a month ago I went outside for a break and there were a couple of smokers I used to break with out there. After we'd stood around (them smoking, me not) for a few minutes one of them asked me if I was out of cigarettes. I told him I'd quit. He said "When?" I said "Last May". He said "Wow", shook his head and went inside. Guess smokers aren't as tight-knit a group as they seem. You're doing great, Chico. Keep up the good quit.
