You can do this, Paula. You want to quit more than you want to smoke. Actually, you don't even want to smoke. We were brain-washed to believe we actually enjoyed those nasty cigarettes! From now on, each time you crave a cigarette, get online and post here. Better yet, find a real, graphic lung-cancer website or one of the myriad of smoking-related diseases. Or, go to the library or a bookstore and read everything you can find about tht tobacco companies cover up. And, of course, there's the Allen Carr book: The Easy Way to Stop Smoking. It helped quite a few on this site. Cold Turkeys just don't smoke anymore. No other options. Paula.....you are not a failure. We are still here for you. Work the program tools to the left. List your reasons for quitting and don't light the next cigarette. N.O.P.E. That is the best advise I can give you. You were doing well. I'd like to see you doing well again. We are here when you are ready. Paula, Wow, that was some post. I am not sure what you mean when you say that you have no plan. Last July you had one. Did you loose it? I am sure that it is still around here somewhere. Do you see all of these good people who are ready to help you? The problem is that we can't help you if you won't come here before you smoke and post and wait for someone to talk to you. We can't help you when you still have ciggeretts laying around to be found. We can't help if you won't make the commitment to not put the smoke in your mouth. I told you we would be here when you are ready. Are you just checking to see if its true? Ready means you have a plan, you have made a choice, and you are ready to make a commitment. ARE YOU READY? We will still be here. Your July quit buddy--remember? Well, the other day didn't happen. I made it 7 hours before I found cigs in the top drawer of my locker, and I would be lying if I said that I wouldn't have bought some if I hadn't found them. So unfortunately I guess now is not the time for me again but hopefully some day soon I'll get up the spine of steel that it takes to fight this battle and win. The rest of you keep it up, you're all doing so well! Bye for now, Paula

I got rid of all my cigs a few mminutes ago. I was toying with the idea of quittting on the 23rd of January but was terrified of the thought of it. I had a cig earlier today and I vomited afterwards. All of a sudden I just tasted it, really tasted it and it was disgusting. But what disgusted me even more was that an hour later I was smoking again. I don't know what came over me a few minutes ago. I'm getting ready for bed and I had to get rid of the cigs. i didn't want to have to wake up tommorrow and smoke. I don't have a plan of any sort. I don't have coping techniques. I don't have nrt. I don't even have strong enthusiasm. I'm just plain tired. I don't know what's gonna happen. This is not the way i normally approach this kind of thing, but the more I was planning to quit, the more I held on to my "precious" cigs. I've lost count of how many times I tried to quit last year. I hate failing, everytime I fail at a quit, I smoke more and more. I really don't know where the paths going from here. Please help me help myself? Paula

Paula, I want you to listen to me and listen good! YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE!!! You keep trying! There is no failure in that. There is one very basic concept of quitting that you seem to have not grasped yet. You have to touch a cigarette to smoke. If you don't do that, you cannot smoke. Make the decision to never touch one and let that be your barrier. Smoking is OK, but touching is very bad. You cannot touch one. Does Dublin have no local support groups where you can get one-on-one support? I'm not suggesting you leave the SSC by any means, but maybe something closer may add to your support. You've got pluck, girl, I give you credit for that. Keep trying Paula and we'll keep trying, too. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 237 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 4,759 Amount Saved: $900.6 Life Gained: Days: 44 Hrs: 8 Mins: 50 Seconds: 30

paula, i so understand the desperation in your voice. i was there...desperate to quit. hating that i smoked, hating it while i smoked. and unable to keep myself from picking up the very next one. I finally did it. it wasn't the illnesses (mine and others), the deaths (my parents) the second-hand smoke i forced on others (especially my children! :gasp: ). what finally got me over the hump and made it possible for me to quit, was my immense anger at the cigarettes that were controlling me! get MAD at your loss of control over the addiction. I had to put my head down, blinders on and just sart trudging through. No matter what, I was not going to smoke that next one. Not everyone's path is the same Paula. Find what works for you...and stay on the path. You can do this...you have before. Never quit quitting!
