Face to face with a smoker...

18 years ago 0 75 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Yesterday my boss sent me on an errand on my way home that involved stopping at another business to drop off some materials. On my way into the building there it was a smoker puffing on a cig. This woman was a business acquaintence whom i had only met once before. My first thought was to walk right by her then i said to myself no i'm going to face this. I stopped and re-introduced myself as she was puffing on that cig and she decided to put it out and walk in the building with me. Funny thing is...it kinda grossed me out. All i could think is i'm so glad i quit. I can't stand the smell of smoke now! Something similar happened to me today. A couple of friends of mine just had a baby, a little girl :) - and she was baptised today, so of course they threw a big party in a restaurant. Not only that I didn't smoke but I also hated the smoke gathering in the room - it's winter and since there are 90% smokers among adults, nobody bothers to open any windows, because they don't feel the smoke. But I felt it, allright :( terrible. I'll never ever restart smoking. As soon as I got home I just threw my clothes off into the laundry basket. They smelled terrible. I still have the smell in my nose somehow. Gah, why was I so stupid as to ever start smoking, 12 years ago????? Hey BJ - congrats! I have avoided certain situations up until now, but eventually just said to hell with it.....I can't NOT do stuff.....have to trust myself and my quit! I think it's awesome you did what you did - now you know you can be around someone smoking and you know HOW you are going to feel. It's something I haven't experienced in my quit as of yet..... Kitty - saw your question too. I have seen other folks post that they don't mind the smell of second hand smoke, but it's good you don't want to do it yourself........keep going....... BJ So glad you let us know how it went. These little things are huge when you think about how it could have turned out. You are now becoming a non smoker. Keep the quit vicki just 1 puff away from 2 packs a day My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/17/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 89 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,582 Amount Saved: $623 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 4 Mins: 19 Seconds: 5

BJ, Congratulations on your victory there! Now tuck all these victories away and save them for when you get hit with a bad crave. Remember how you dealt with it before and draw on those times to get you the needed strength to maintain your quit. Well done! Be Strong. Be Smart.
