Not shure there casey. They basically all do the same thing so if $$$$$ is an issue (cough) i'd go for the cheaper one. I'm shure someone will answer with alot more knowledge on this.... otherwise there are lots & lots of posts here on re: NRT, just read up. The biggest thing you will need though is the 'want' & desire to quit more than anything & you can't buy that over the counter !.. so be strong about it. Casey... Welcome to the SSC. This is the place to quit smoking. You said:
here is the problem... i cant quit
You are wrong Casey. You CAN quit. Take advantage of the program tools to the left. Get a plan together and start educating yourself about the affects of smoking and the quit process. I believe that we all felt we couldn't quit when we began. I know I did. It can be done if you want it bad enough. Superkeener, That always cracks me up when people say they can't afford NRT but they can afford cigarettes! I mean, think about that for a second! You will save a lot more money in the long run if you are successful on the NRT than you will a lifetime of addiction to the cigarettes. That's just my opinion. That was one of the things that kept me going a different time I quit... I figured that the stuff I bought to help me quit was equal to 3 weeks of smoking, so I HAD to quit for at least 3 weeks... and I stayed quit for over a month that time, but unfortunately went back to smoking. But that WAS a motivation I used to quit... I CAN'T smoke because I used my smoking money to quit smoking. It works in the short term, but after that, you have to have really solid reasons to pull you through. Just my opinion. Take it for what it's worth. Many people here have been VERY successful on NRT. At least consider it as an option... whatever it takes, right? Crave the Quit! Superkeener, The problem isn't that you CAN'T quit, it's that you don't THINK that you CAN.
Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you're right. - Henry Ford
First of all, what are your reasons for quitting? Is it totally and 100% for the girlfriend? If so, then you're not quitting for the right reasons and therefore, the quit probably won't stick. You have to quit for YOU! She can be a reason, but your primary reasons MUST be because YOU want to... otherwise, if you two happen to break up, then your reason for quitting is gone, and you're right back to smoking whatever and you've just thrown away all of your hard work. Do NOT let that happen! Come up with a list of reasons to quit that are personal to you. It is only when you want to quit more than you want to smoke that a quit will survive. Next, have you considered NRT? If you have such a hard time quitting, you might want to consider using an aid. It's not cheating to use something to help you if it really does work to get you to finally quit for good. Also, quitting is a lifestyle change. If you want to quit marijuana as well, you're probably going to have to make some changes to your social patterns, i.e. - not going out with the people who usually smoke pot with you, limiting your exposure to the places where you normally smoke it, etc... That's something you're going to have to think about before you take a serious stab at this... is this a change you're willing to make? Lastly, this MUST be N.O.P.E. - Not One Puff Ever. A puff here and there is the most surefire way right back into active addiction. Yes, it's hard, but it is most certainly worth it. It sounds like you want to grow up and accept responsibility and act like a man... that's great! And you're making several positive steps in the right direction. Good for you! Congratulations on your decision to quit! Crave the Quit! superkeener, You know, marijuana isn't called "dope" because smart people smoke it. You sound like you want to break free from a poor, not to mention, danagerous, lifestyle. This is going to take some serious effort on your part. You sound like you want to do this, but seem to lack the commitment to see it through. This site is full of good people that can give you advice on how to kick your addictions (drug and nicotine). The thing is, you have to supply the strength, determination, commitment and positive attitude that it takes to accomplish your quits. Smoke from pot is hotter than that from cigarettes and does even more damage to your lungs (not to mention braincells) then cigarettes do. The real positive in your post is that you recognize that you need to clean up your act. That is a great first step. Plus, it sounds like your girlfriend will be a big supporter for you. Casey, you're not a kid so it's time to tackle your fears and doubts and get on with your life. We will be here for you. Get some kind of plan together and most of all, wrap your head around this. I know you don't want to continue your destructive lifestyle, so let's get going on the new you! Best wishes. Be Strong. Be Smart. Hi, Casey. Welcome to the SSC. Like many have already told you, you can quit. All that is needed is you have to want to. You have to want to quit more than you need to smoke. When that happens you'll be able to quit. But don't wait until that time to start trying. It's never too early to start saving your life. I won't lie to you, Casey. No matter what method you use to quit, it's going to be hard. Some methods mask withdrawals on some people better that others, but very few get out of this without struggle. Some people have it easy the first few weeks, then get slammed hard. Others struggle terribly the first few weeks and have smooth sailing after that. Everyone is different. For about 39 years I smoked a pack a day. I've gone without eating for a few days and I've had to put up my tools for collateral on rent, but I never went smokeless. I even put up an emotional wall between me and my non-smoking wife because she hindered my ease of smoking. This is a horrid addiction that sinks it's claws in deep, but it can be broken. There are many here who stand as proof to that. Glad you've joined us, Casey. Stay close and let us know how we can help. Keep working at cutting down, thats the way I did it and it worked for me. Delay that much "loved" cigarette as long as you can and you will find it gets easier each time. As far as NRT that is silly, you can afford cigarettes but not NRT"S?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? Sheesh, my smokes cost me $60.00 a week, the patches cost me $10.00 a week!!!! the money you spend on smokes and pot will pay for the patches.....I used the walmart Equate brand and it cost me LESS than my smokes were costing me a week. it's another trick of our addiction to convince us that we can't AFFORD to by NRT. In reality, if it helps you quit, you can't afford NOT to buy NRT! in my own opinion, smoking pot is smoking....smoking cigarettes is smoking......quitting is NOT smoking. Quitting is also a CHOICE....and then you have to "commit" to it! You need self discipline.....why don't you consider joining a real life support group as well as this online one?? If you WANT to quit badly enough you will find the help that you need to do it! check with hospitals, clinics, health departments.....many many areas offer smoking cessation programs....some of them even furnish the patches. You need to give up BOTH of these addictions. Stay close and let us know what is happening with you. katy My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/4/2002 Smoke-Free Days: 1500 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 60,017 Amount Saved: $8250 Life Gained: Days: 195 Hrs: 17 Mins: 3 Seconds: 37
