Well, you can not go backwards at this point. Have you tried snapping elastic on your wrist? Please know that butt you long for would disappoint you. It would taste vile now. Best wishes on your exam. Dear viga I am proud of you for thinking ahead! Its not thinking ahead that has gotten so many quitters in trouble. Its not being prepared for the crisis, the stress, even the celebration that makes quitters fall. Definitly take the coping mechanisims the group has suggested with you....getting ready for the test and to the test. Stay Strong and Stay Quit! Way to go, Viga. It's certainly a good thing to plan ahead for iffy and/or new situations. Smart move. gpw My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 93 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,403 Amount Saved: $372 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 15 Mins: 44 Seconds: 46

You'd be better off to smoke the grass out of your lawn than putting the highly-addictive enemy, nicotine, back into your brain! It's the nicotine that keeps a person smoking. Hold onto a drinking straw or something like that - someone previously mentioned a "worry stone". You can do this, I know you can. gpw My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 92 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,394 Amount Saved: $368 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 14 Mins: 26 Seconds: 48

Hi, Viga. Honestly, I think NRT would be a big mistake at your point. It would be like giving a heroin junkie or an alcoholic just a little bit of their drug of addiction to get them through a rough spot. That's really not a good idea. My suggestion is to not try to avoid it, but expect it. Go headlong into it. When you sit down to study, assume and expect a crave to hit full force. Prepare yourself mentally to accept it's presence and that you will not give in to it, that you will just ride it out because it is temporary. I'm betting you'll find them much weaker and easier to deal with than expected. Craves at your point are memory triggered. Apparently, there are a set of circumstances (stress over test + studying?) that you used to use nicotine to get you through, and this association has not been extingushed yet. Each time you get through a smoking situation nicotine-free you weaken the association until it eventually is broken. 558 days is just awesome, Viga. I can only imagine what it will be like to be there myself. Patience, me, it will come. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 329 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,592 Amount Saved: $1250.2 Life Gained: Days: 61 Hrs: 10 Mins: 47 Seconds: 10

thanks for your input, everyone. i read in another post that someone suggested a drinking straw, and i think i might use that. water also. i'm nowhere near actually smoking, i'm just troubleshooting in case i get a really strong craving. i approached this quit with a high level of preparedness, and i want to stay that way. we ALL need to think ahead and plan, i think, that's the only way our quits will become permanent. anyways, i'll keep you updated about my progress. best, viga
