Good Tom :) That's the person you have to quit for, yourself. I'm sorry to hear about your health problems. That leads me to another question. Are you quitting because you 'want' to or because you 'have' to? It's so much easier to quit if you really want it to your core. I think of it as a choice. I choose not to smoke! Keep reading here Tom. Learn everything you can about quitting. Also, feel free to start your own threads. It's anonymous so you can say anything and everything. btw~Welcome. Hey Tom, First let me say that I think it is great that you are trying to quit. Don't lose heart because it usually takes several "runs at it" to finally get it right. It's hard to tell from here but it seems like you do pretty well until something 'stressful' happens.(?) If I am right then there are some things you can do. It's easier for some than others. It helps if you could begin to look inside yourself and figure out why you react to stress the way you do AND find/practice some other (more healthy/productive) ways to cope with your stress. Are you letting others 'determine' how 'you' feel? Are you quitting smoking for others (or) are you doing it for YOU? Maybe try asking yourself lots of questions and see if it helps you to focus on WHY you go buy more. Also, I do know of some who have quit smoking with NO support whatsoever. So don't think you can't do it alone. Don't hate yourself either. You are human. We've all been there. ~all the best N2k My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 175 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,868 Amount Saved: $875 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 16 Mins: 31 Seconds: 5

Happy Birthday Cuddles! I agree with GAGA that having someone THERE with you, someone you can talk to in real time does help. Perhaps a family member? Anyone within local calling distance that could be your 'quit partner' through the first 3 months or so? Keep the faith~ N2k My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 175 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,867 Amount Saved: $875 Life Gained: Days: 16 Hrs: 16 Mins: 20 Seconds: 48

I'm right here Cuddles and I've got your hand. Get rid of those cigarettes. There isn't one thing on God's green earth they will do or you except KILL you. Don't let them control your life. The most important lesson I learned by quitting is that I was controlled by smoking. I could not grasp that concept. Then I got angry and refused to be CONTROLLED any longer. This is your life Cuddles. Once you get over these hurdles and learn what it takes for you to get through the craves, life is going to be so much better. I cannot explain it. I don't have words to describe the freedom. All I can say is that I want to see you experience it like I and so many others have. Stay close to the site Cuddles. This place is a Godsend. The SSC has saved me from myself more times than I can count. You have been MIA for a few days. I know people joke about being addicted to the SSC and some feel the need to get away from it. Others (like me) stick around because this is where we quit and it is part of our lives. There isn't anything wrong with that. I just know you have already gotton rid of those smokes and that you are finished with the slipping game now. We are not going to beat you up over this and do not beat yourself up either. It is in the past. It is over! Leave it there. Today is a new day. Right here Right now. We can not change yesterday but the future is waiting for us. I'm going to walk down this road with you now, so pick yourself up, brush yourself off, best foot foward. Here we go.... Tom, It sounds like you have some good reasons for quitting, but you must realize that in order to quit, you cannot smoke. Seems simple, and it is... not easy, but simple. We have a saying here, N.O.P.E. - Not One Puff Ever. One puff leads to one more, one more leads to one pack, one pack leads to one carton....... you get the picture. Just don't smoke that next cigarette. The ones before it don't matter and the ones after it don't matter... only that NEXT cigarette matters. It's not easy. It takes time to not run to cigarettes everytime things get rough, but it's something we have to learn as ex-smokers. Life's going to happen whether we smoke or not. Bad things ARE going to happen. So we have to learn to deal with them without smoking. The good news is that once you've done it a few times, it gets a lot easier because you can say to yourself "I made it through such-and-such without a smoke, so I can make it through this without a smoke too." Stand in a mirror and say to yourself "no matter what happens, I'm not going to smoke!!!" Say it until you believe it! You CAN do this! Crave the Quit! Cuddles,
Yes one puff will do you in.
You learned a valuable lesson. That is SO true. Perhaps it's a lesson you had to learn in order to move on. Do not look at this as you failing... look at it as a step towards being quit forever. As long as you take something from this and try not to make the same mistakes again, then you have NOT failed! I want you to read this post: Afraid to fail. I think it speaks to what you are going through right now perfectly. Please don't give up! You have come too far and have worked too hard to throw it all away and imprision yourself to a lifetime of slavery to the nicodemon!!! I know you want freedom! So grab ahold of it and don't let go! We're here to help you through this. Just hang on! Crave the Quit!
