ashika, Welcome to the site and congratulations on making the decision to quit smoking. It's great to hear that you have set a date. Now make a plan and implement it. Stick to this plan and stay close to the site. We are all here for you. Take Care, Melanie ________________________ The SSC Support Team

Hi Ashika1, Me and my boyfriend (DaveP) just quit this week (2/6) and are doing pretty okay overall. We are going through it too so ask up anything! Some things that have helped me this week: -Having no cigarettes anywhere -No alcohol or going out to a bar...we are going to be hermits for awhile and our friends are cool with it because they are good friends. -I love to excercise too...and this week I stepped it up and did Taebo in the morning and running at night. I feel like any overeating I am doing is justified and that takes a lot of stress off. Also, I fell asleep pretty early and easily from the excercise. -Having my favorite CD's in the car...blasting music has distracted me on car rides (my biggest trigger). Oh and gum too...very helpful in keeping mouth distracted. -Post often...it will help you so much. I guess that is about it, you can do it. Good luck, feel free to ask me anything and know that everyone on this site is very supportive. ashika1Text TextTextText Welcome to all the help you will need to stop smoking. We are starting a group for people who quit smoking in February. Fairydust is running it and we are currently trying to come up with a name for it. You are welcome and invited. Come for help with things you don't understand or just to vent. We know what you are going through and we will be pulling for you. As Corny as this sounds, make a list of why you want to quit.. why it is important. Keep it handy.. laminate it .. post it on the frig.. Acknowledge that you are important and that deciding to quit is the right decision.. Pickup some hard candy, sunflower seeds, snacks.. to munch on instead of smoking.. these things really help. Try to avoid people who smoke if possible. Drinks lots of water or tea or cranberry-type juice.. this will help flush your body of the nicotine while you detox. Get rid of all cigarettes, ashtrays, matches, lighters from everywhere. Clean/detail your car .. this really helped me.. Day by day, smell you hands and your hair and don't be afraid to breath deeply.. Do not stress over what will happen when you eat or drive or get into situations that use to be your high smoke times. You can get through them.. cravings only last for a maximum of 3 minutes. Pamper yourself and ask for help/time off if you need it. You are detoxing and like any rehab, you need time to deal with changing your life. YOU ARE CHANGING YOUR LIFE ... GETTING RID OF THE BALL AND CHAIN !! You are going to take this control of your life back and we are here to help !! POsitive attitude is so important.. Smile you are taking charge ! :) Hang tuff ! Hi Ashika, You will notice such an immense difference. I started running again as well, and even though I worked out before doing the usual stuff, the first time I ran again (which was this week) my lungs worked like a well oiled engine. No coughing, no tightness, no nothing. It was such a liberating experience! Just come here and come often. Good luck tomorrow! Hi, I am planning on quitting tomorrow. I would really appreciate a quit smoking buddy. Someone who has recently quit, or is planning on quitting tomorrow as well. I really want to kick this habit, and I think it would help to have a buddy system in place. I am very anxious, as I have tried quitting before, obviously was unsuccessful, so I don't want to lose my focus this time.

Thank you all for your encouragement. I actually bought Alan Carr's book, and am reading it now, hoping to finish it tonight! I really WILL do it this time! I'm very impressed at the strength of all of you, in meeting your goals of becoming non-smokers! I hate the smell of my house, and my clothes, etc, but most of all, ironically enough, I'm a runner and I am losing my aerobic capacity since picking this up again last year after 10 years of not smoking. (long story, but mainly a return to an old coping pattern under stress) I am kind of excited and anxious at the same time. Will post tomorrow.

ashika, I'm afraid that I can't help you in the buddy department - I'm in my fifth week. Can I make a few suggestions - read lots of posts on this site. Some will really help you in your quit. Watch the triggers - educate yourself what they are and avoid them. Stay strong - drink lots - come hear and gain strength. May i suggest the book by Allen Carr called Easy way to Stop Smoking. He recommends that you read the book while you smoke & trust me, it really does the trick My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 405 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 10,138 Amount Saved: $2632.5 Life Gained: Days: 58 Hrs: 2 Mins: 28 Seconds: 43

oops sorry, i should've mentioned that Allen Carr says you can also read the book while not smoking(as i did), it worked just as well. This site is quite personal & has all the 'tips & tricks' you could ever need.
