I've not quit smoking, as of yet(but I'll be one of you non-smokers come tomorrow!), I wanted to chime in on the snack thing, as I have a medical condition that has me eating in a more balanced way for such a condition.
I boil 4 or 5 eggs, and store them in the fridge till needed...I'll drop them in a cup of hot water to just bring them to room temp, and enjoy one for a quick breakfast or for a snack. (My research on eggs has led me to believe that eggs tend to get a bad rap. There not so bad for me, eaten in moderation, of course!)
I always try to put GOOD fats, protiens and carbs in all my meals/snacks (whatever you wanna call my way of eating) as it lessens glucose and insulin spikes to combine them all and in smaller portions...which helps to keep unwanted body fat at bay (just wanted to throw in there)
~Mozz cheese sticks
~Low glycemic index fruits, such as a small apple, pear or strawberries
~Spread "No sugar added" Peanut butter onto cut-up apple or 1/2 small banana. (bananas are a higher glycemic index fruit, but I love the buggers!, and need the added potassium).
~Sunflower seeds (like the idea of shelling them myself, as someone else suggested having something to do with hands..great idea!)
~1/2 serving of favorite nuts...in my case, almonds, peanuts, walnuts and/or cashews.
~Of course your garden variety fresh, cut-up veggies. I keep some cut-up and place into a ziploc baggie for that weeks use, and not only have a snack, but can make into a quick salad by adding dressing, and wholesome nuts and/or seeds.
~1 slice WHOLE WHEAT bread(favorite WHOLE grain bread with 1 tbsp PB (No sugar added)....have an Elvis sandwich (add a few slices of banana, just don't fry said sandwich... your arteries and waist line will thank you, "Thank you very much" ;))
~And, I drink water every stinking chance I get! Keeps me feeling full.
Harley :)
