Day 1, for the 100th time!

Day 1 should begin today ... even if you've smoked today ... because "tomorrow" never comes...

Eady, Good luck to you! Your post hit home for me, I was shocked at how strong the urges to smoke have been. The devious way the addict brain works is scary. I spent alot of time reading about Junkie thinking, because I know its my biggest downfall. Keep reading and keep posting, I think this site is going to help both of us ALOT! OK, I blew 6 days of non-smoking. So I'm at it again day 1 begins, AGAIN, tomorrow. It is unbelievable to me that I am having such a terrible terrible time with this quitting smoking thing. But if I don't stop I will die and before I die will live a very unpleasant life, I know this, I believe this, but the NICODEMON sits on my shoulder and says tomorrow is another day, you can have one cigarette, how infuriating. I did everything to prepare for my last quit and someone came to my house with smokes and some wine and that was the end of it. So I smoked the last 2 days, how easy to fall back even when it tastes like s#$t. I have to rely on my higher power and finally accept I am powerless over this and my life has become unmanageable, because I am an addict and there is no difference between me and someone who shoots heroine, only my drug of choice is nicotine and it is legal. I say powerless in the fact that I have no control over smoking, I can not have just one, one is never enough, one is too many. It's funny I often think I would never say to a recovering heroine addict "Oh you're having a bad day, I'm sure if you shoot up just this once it will be ok." But this is what my NICODEMON tells me, one cigarette won't hurt. It is 100% true, one puff away from 2 packs a day! So here goes day one again, again, again... :(

Hi Eady, What I tell Nicodemon when he sits on my shoulder is that "I choose not to smoke". Stay strong and it will happen just remember I choose not to smoke. Eady, You CAN do it. We were ALL where you are now...once. Most of us thought we would never be able to stop. But we did. Most of us had to quit several times before we made it to the final quit. But we did. When the voice is whispering in your ear you have to block it OUT! Refuse to dwell on it. Get your mind busy with other things. Keep mints, straws or something in your mouth ALL the time the first few days. Most of all please BELIEVE YOU CAN DO IT ok? Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't you're right! ~all the best :) N2k My Milage: My Quit Date: 8/20/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 163 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,604 Amount Saved: $815 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 13 Mins: 14 Seconds: 5

Well there is one thing we all have in common is we all fall off then get back up and start over again. Someone told me this worked for him was he keep on trying to beat his last number of days he smoked. Then eventually has quit for good some 14 years now. He also explained to me he liked smoking, the taste, the lighting up, everyting to go with smoking. Remember "Don't Give up Giving up! :confuse: My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/15/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 16 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 209 Amount Saved: $80 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 12 Mins: 28 Seconds: 44

Hi Eady :) Awww...You almost had hell week knocked out. You seem to have the knowledge...but since what you were doing didn't work...you need a better plan of attack! If being around smokers is too much for you, then the answer is quite simple. 1.You don't go around those smokers 2. You ask them to help by not smoking around you 3.You have a set of coping skills ready to deal with that time...because...as we all know...that time WILL come again. Your goal will be to get through those times. Remember, cravings last just a few short minutes. Do whatever you have to do...leave if you have to. It's not forever....it's just for now. Get mad, get tough, get through it, get free of this addiction! You can do it. N.O.P.E... EVER! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 2/2/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 362 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 7,258 Amount Saved: $1292.34 Life Gained: Days: 38 Hrs: 10 Mins: 9 Seconds: 0
