Well, at least others are paying attention to this thread. ;) Thanks for the tip, Shevie! Interesting how sunflower seed stock has increased in value. In light of my recent conversion to sunflower seed connoisseur, if there are many more out there like my manager and myself, I can see how this would be the case! ;) Anyway, in response to your previous question, whether it was rhetorical or not, yes the Bullmastiff breed is more of a guard dog than an agility dog, although I have seen them in shows. I think it must have been the type of shows where the dogs just strut their stuff around a large oval and the judges decide who they think looks the best and is the most well mannered. :) There was a time when I was working nights, and I didn't want my wife home alone. That's when I made the decision to buy our Bully, her name is Birkita, which means "Strength". She's about 125 pounds, and looks more intimidating than she is. Most people are afraid of her at first, but she's just a big oaf. :) Anyway, if I remember correctly from the research I did before we bought her, (which was from a licensed breeder in Canada), Bullmastiff's were originally bred to guard large estates in England. Since, at the time, we were living on a few acres of land, I figured that this type of dog might be a good fit. Of course, we keep her in at night. And, for those who are wondering - yes, my manager has kept up with his quit. I'm SO proud of him, he's doing it! He has kept his motivation and refused to give in, even when the going has gotten rough a few times. He is staying the course. Thanks, butterfly swimmer. I know there are others who actually check this forum as well, I was mostly just kidding. :) Penitent came on just to kick Shevie's name off the board and get a change of scenery, which I think is funny, but anyway... That's excellent that your friends at church were able to give up dipping tobacco! I'm impressed that they only had rough sailing for the first 12 days. I don't remember exactly what it was for me, but I recall needing my "pacifier", (a.k.a. herbal replacement and NRT) for about the first 3 months of my quit. But, it's different for everyone. Keep on keepin' on! Thank you, butterfly swimmer. Glad you've decided to stick around and just limit your posting. ;) I understand how it is. Last year when work was in full swing, I was working 9-1/2 to 10 hour days, six days per week. That doesn't leave much time for anything else. I guess we have to make a living though! I know there are people out there who work even more than that, and somehow, I guess they handle it, but I'm not sure how. I hope everything continues going well with your quit and college! Becoming a teacher sounds like an excellent goal. :) Infinite My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/21/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 276 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,796 Amount Saved: $303.6 Life Gained: Days: 35 Hrs: 16 Mins: 33 Seconds: 36

I wanted to let everyone know, in case anyone has been following the story, that my manager at work quit chewing tobacco on January 1st, 2006! He now has 10 days in his quit, and all seems to be going well. I'm quite proud of him for taking that step. He's not real big on computer forums so I haven't been able to talk him into joining us here, but, I did want to share his success with everyone. I'll keep you all posted. :) Any other takers out there reading this forum who want to be free again? Come join us! We'll be happy to help you in any way we can, to be successful in your quit. Shevie, Yeah, you and me both my friend! :) It's the same guy. He's still not my favorite person in the world for obvious reasons, but I think EVERYONE should quit using tobacco, so I'm certainly not going to stand in his way, and if he needs my help, I will try to help him. He has calmed down since those early days of my quit. True, there was no call for the things he did to me, and it was downright cruel as a matter of fact, but I'm a forgiving person for the most part. One less tobacco user in the world, and one less person for me to have to watch still dipping tobacco every day. How have you been holding up my friend? I see posts from you scattered throughout the forum as usual. Take care! Thanks all. I will pass along your congratulations to him, and remind him that help is just around the corner if he needs it. He had a rough day yesterday, so I kept reassuring him that it's only temporary, and if he just continues to stick with it, eventually it will get easier and he will be so happy that he turned his back on tobacco and never went back. And another thing - you'll never guess who is jumping on the wagon now! Yes, the guy I told you about who used to put a can of tobacco in my face and blow the aroma towards me when I was trying to quit. I caught him with some herbal chew the other day and I asked him if he was trying to quit too. He shrugged his shoulders and said, "This stuff is pretty good.", and then smiled. I guess that was all the answer I really needed. LOL So, maybe before long my work place will truly be tobacco free! ;) I was just thinking the other day how different of a place that Copenhagen rep would find if she were to visit again! vicki - no need to apologize. I don't make my way around to all of the forums either. I wish I had more time to spend on this site. :) Infinite My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/21/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 238 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,015 Amount Saved: $261.8 Life Gained: Days: 30 Hrs: 21 Mins: 8 Seconds: 35

Thank you for asking, newbkr! I'm happy to report that, yes, my manager is still off of tobacco! Since he quit on January 1st, he's easier to keep track of, so today is his 25th day tobacco free. He has had his up and down days as is to be expected, however, I am very impressed with how well he has handled it so far. He seems to be less grumpy than I was, and he is not using any NRT, such as the gum, patch, etc. All he is using are the herbal replacements, and sunflower seeds. So far, so good! I'll try and make sure I keep everyone posted as he progresses. Infinite

Thanks, Shevie! :) I know what you mean regarding the tremendous feeling of freedom having quit tobacco. It feels wonderful, doesn't it? No longer enslaved to the addiction. Every now and then, I run into a trigger that gives way to the thought that a dip of tobacco would sure be nice, but those thoughts are easily defeated now days. I still don't let my guard down, though. I know a guy who once quit chewing tobacco for one full year. He now chews more than he ever did. I'm determined not to be like him! I don't understand how you go back after having quit for a year. My wife and I enjoy watching the dog agility training, although we've never personally participated in any competitions. It looks like a lot of fun. Our family dogs are a black labrador and a bullmastiff, both of whom we've had since they were puppies. Infinite! Good to hear from you. :) Don't apologize. I know how busy you are. Sorry to hear you were under the weather. I haven't gotten sick since I quit so I have no idea what it's like. My guess is it's probably easier to deal with, not having to go into the cold to smoke, and the smoking itself, especially with a sore throat. Plus I find forgetting you are quit is just fantastic. There is a point, I'm convinced, where we pass from being quitters to being ex-smokers (or non-smokers, if you prefer). To me, this seems to be a maturing process much like growing up. Looks like we've both made the transistion. Ain't it great? :) So, do you have a 1 year reward planned? I've decided to do a mid-life crisis/second childhood thing. Screw the neighbors, I'm getting a set of drums. Used to play in my teens and I really enjoyed it. Never was very good (coordination issues, lol), but had a blast. Good to hear from you again, Infinite. Pass my congrats to your manager, too.
