Hi redrosie- Mall walking is really great! It's safer than the streets, and no tripping over broken or uneven sidewalks (and it's cool inside in the summer!) I live in Houston, so it gets really hot here... Well, didn't get that ..uh... bra this evening, I just wanted to get out of there. I was too frustrated to shop, so I will get a few pounds off and go back then But I did get some great homemade soup made for me tonight so I can eat that (and some salad stuff) rather than my tex-mex comfort food that put my tummy to the test:) And I also bought (again) the baked chips, and threw away the regular potato chips (now those can really put the weight on fast)... So I am well on my way. I know you wonderful friends are out there for me, and that gives me all the support I need to get focused, and take healthier care of me, 'specially now that I am not putting that icky, nasty smoke in or around me. Thanks for all the support, I really appreciate you guys and gals:) Blessings be-- Healer xox ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 20 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 734 Amount Saved: $48 Life Gained: Days: 2 Hrs: 17 Mins: 18 Seconds: 31

Whew! - I am sooo damn frustrated (though I've calmed down a little)... Went to the mall this evening to walk and to reward myself with a surprise (today is my 20 day smoke-free anniv!!)... I wanted a new 'intimate' as my special reward today, and when I tried on new bras (hope that's not too personal:) I just got so damned frustrated. I have a tummy on me now, and I am just uncomfortable with where I am with gaining the weight I've gained in this short time. UGH... Not that long ago I lost a good amt of weight, and now I feel like I've gone backwards so I am very frustrated. It's time for me to get a handle on what I am eating, and it scares me a little, not sure why, it has to do with my Quit I think. Just gotta find the balance here, ya'll. I am not losing my Quit, and I also need to be gentle w/self here... OK I went to the grocery store after, and I am going to eat healthier... So I am making this commitment to me that I am going to eat healthier, less fat... I think I had really given myself permission these 20 days to eat, and to have some comfort food when I wanted it... I'm a little afraid as the comfort food has been there for me since my Quit. I gotta find the balance here... As I drove into my driveway from the store, I said to myself, 'self :) hold on tight now - time to do daily mall walking (which I used to do and for some reason stopped doing daily) and watch what I eat! Although I am afraid, I know I can do this! My Quit I protect with everything in me - now I gotta watch the food and find the balance w/my Quit (my #1 commitment!) and shedding some of this extra weight. Thanks for listening everybody, I really needed to vent. Healer- I totally understand this one. Weight is my second problem too. I kept up my workout routine and in the first three weeks I didn't lose pound and I had been losing two inches a month up to this date. So - I added an extra workout day and watched the "intake". This week I finally started losing again and 5 lbs shed off me. I think my body was busy healing some other things. Keep walking, you will start back up again with weight loss even while you are in your quit. I think it is something in that first few weeks of the quit (and the Girl Scout Cookies) that triggers a few extra pounds to sneak up on you. Just keep to your plan that helped you lose in the first place. Hang on to your quit of both!!! Hooray healer, You vent all you need. I am with you on the food, I do enjoy my comfort foods and I have made sure that I balance that with good physical workouts. Finding that balance has been tricky if not challenging and the balance is there if I seek it out and ensure that I happens. You will find it. P.S. I never before worked as physically hard as I am now so that I don't balloon up like I have in past quits. Hi Healer Within. I had to laugh as I read your post. I too went shopping tonight. And one of the things I bought were 3 new... er, well lets just say since my quit, my cups runneth over. lol. It sure can be shocking standing under the florescent lights in those dingy dressing rooms. Oh well, I hope you bought yourself some nice rewards. You must live in a big city do you? I have never heard of someone mall walking before. My town is so rural we don't even have sidewalks by my house. I hope you can do well on the eating healthier. I have good intentions until something crunchy and salty starts calling my name. Usually chips. Congrats on your 20 day quit. Actually, officially by my clock you have hit the 3 week mark. Yipppeee!!! for you. Morning HealerWithin. Mall walking sounds great, but I would have to do it without my wallet or I'd be "walkin'" into every store. :p I hear ya on the baked chips. I have discovered Skinny Chips. They are only 130 cal. for about 2 cups. Nice and crunchy and salty. Yum Yum. 3galeh, I'm going to google your cabbage soup recipe. I have seen you talk about it before. You always sound so positive on this eating thing. You really seem to know what you're talking about. I sure can use any advice. Closet Smoker No Mor, Welcome to our quit family. :) redrosie My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 84 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,025 Amount Saved: $697.2 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 5 Mins: 20 Seconds: 3

When I first quit smoking I vowed I would NOT replace my smoking habit with an eating habit. The week before I quit I went on the cabbage soup diet for 1 week (not one I would stay on for any length of time but its great for a kick start) I lost 6 lbs and then when I quit smoking I stayed eating healthy and WALKED and WALKED, 2 miles in the morn and 2 at night, then I biked, exercised and swam when I could fit them in. I didnt gain weight when I quit in fact I have lost weight so yes it can be done. If anyone wants the diet, goggle it. Congratulations on your 20 days, that is awesome. If you can quit smoking a little thing like dieting will be a breeze :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/21/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 339 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 8,482 Amount Saved: $2542.5 Life Gained: Days: 44 Hrs: 8 Mins: 53 Seconds: 20
