Hello everyone! This is my 4th day quit. I stumbled across this website yesterday, and I love it! I only wish I had found it before I quit! Oh, well -- better late than never! My husband and I quit together on Sunday, March 5th. We both have been smoking over 1 pack a day for 18-20 years! We have tried to quit 2 other times, but to no avail. This time we went to a hypnosis seminar. It only cost $40, and they had a money back guarentee. So how could we lose??!! Well, needless to say, I walked out of there, and for the first time I could smell an ashtray from about 5 feet away. It was so gross. I didnt think that I would have my last cig. I didnt get to say "good-bye". Well, I did okay within the first 3 hours. Then panic set in. But we stuck it out. The first whole day was intense. Although I felt as if I had one long, continuous craving, I relaxed, listened to cd's, and took a long nap. Yesterday was a little easier, and today has been a breeze, so far. My cravings have lessened alot, but I get these panic attacks quite often. Has anyone else gotten these? I start to freak out when something like it is time to walk my kids to school. How will I do it without smoking my cig first, then going on to school???!!! The panic doesnt last long, but I get it every time I need to do something! When will that part end??? Thank you for listening. OMG! I had a panic attact at the thought of quitting. I am on Wellbutrin so I think that helps but yes I know exactly what your talking about. I haven't had one since I decided that quitting is my choice. Good Luck and keep up the good work. You have one day on me. Hi dunbarj and congratulations to you and your husband on making a life altering change. I quit cold turkey and I do know of what you are speaking about the panic attacks. Just know you are over the first 3 hardest days of your quit. You are in HELL week and you need to do what ever it takes, exercise, walk, any means of keeping yourself busy and to distract you from constant thoughts of a smoke. Come to this site a read and post, and read and post there are many here to help you through every minute. The main thing is don't smoke, and breath deep. WELCOME!!! Glad to see you found our wee group, and that you have joined the growing ranks of non-smokers...... Not sure I can answer your "panic attack" questions, as everyone has different "feelings" during withdrawals. Some liken it to panic, others to a tight feeling in their throat or chest, or to a spacey, weirded out feeling, etc. If you are truly concerned these are full fledged panic attacks, you may want to chat with your doctor about something to help you, like Zyban or Wellbutrin. Others who have used these products, pls chime in! You may just be experiencing your own personal withdrawal syptoms of your mind rebelling against the fact you are now a non-smoker. Try to read the posts here to gain a better understanding of what others are and have gone thru, and to reassure yourself you are not alone. Also, work the tools on this site - they really do help - and find some other "quit smoking" sites to broaden your understanding of what is happening to your body and mind. Quitting is simple, but not easy. You just don't smoke. Simple. But carrying that resolution thru is definitely not easy. But it can be done. Good luck!!! Welcome dunbarj, Congratulations to you and your hubby. Use the tools availiable here to get smart about this whole quitting process. I do know whatyou mean by that panicky feeling. You have to find something else to replace that cig. with. It may be a mint (my choice), sucker, sunflower seeds or gum. Just know that the crave only lasts for a few min., so you need to "switch" your mind to others thoughts until the crave goes away. Being on day 4 cold turkey is great! Read, post and keep busy, and things will definately be easier for you.redrosie My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 67 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,620 Amount Saved: $556.1 Life Gained: Days: 6 Hrs: 13 Mins: 52 Seconds: 56

Lottsa luck to you and yours. Hang in there, I know what you're talking about with the panic attacks...but guess what there's no reason to panic cause they go away in a few minutes...force yourself to do something, anything. Frequency drops quickly. (I'm on day 40+, but still counting the minutes sometimes) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/24/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 44 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,114 Amount Saved: $396 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 16 Mins: 24 Seconds: 20
