How Children Teach The Simplest Things like DETERMINATION

18 years ago 0 4 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
What a great story! I have two children that were always begging me to stop, they made me feel so guilty. Now that I've quit they're so proud of me . Which makes all the mood swings, headaches, extra boxes of tissues worth it. Great job on your first week. Reward youself and your daughter. Hi everyone, Tomorrow will be a week smoke-free for me. As posted earlier, my husband was of no help in my dire moments of losing my mind trying to deal with this. My biggest saviour besides all of you has been my five year old daughter;Julia. For some reason, she actually "gets" all of this. First, let me give you some history on my littlest child. She is a spit-fire. She is the opposite of my sweet ten year old daughter. If you tell her not to do something she will do it just because you said not to. She is "cool" before her time. She lies constantly, not to avoid getting in trouble but I guess, just because. Despite all sorts of efforts to get her to stop lying, she has kept on telling the tall tales. After seeing her mom going crazy in just the first few hours of her quit, Julia declared "Mommy, I am going to give up lying so we can quit something together". I really didnt give much thought about it at the time but like magic, my littlest girl has stopped lying. It hasnt been easy for her, unlike me. Sometimes, I will see her start to say something and stop herself-like she was going to lie and made herself stop. Every night she crawls in bed with me at eight o'clock, her bedtime, now mine(I dont like staying awake any longer than I have to this week!)and she strokes my hair and tells me things like "You're doing a good job not smoking mommy" and "I am so glad you don't go out to the garage to smoke now mommy" and "mommy now you smell nice". I don't know if she realizes what her impact has made on my quit, but it is huge. Even more so, is her desire to show me that she has the determination to give up something that she enjoyed doing(lying). My daughter is more wise than I ever could be. It is really amazing what she has taught me this week. After all of the crap I have faced this week with my cravings, craziness and unsupporting spouse-she and all of you have been MIRACULOUS in this hard journey!!! Denisey ;) My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/14/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 6 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 134 Amount Saved: $30 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 14 Mins: 35 Seconds: 58

Denisey My 6 year old also quit something when I quit. She was a thumb sucker. She got a blister on her thumb and the doc said she could not suck it for 7 days. Quite a few days passed and she asked how long it had been. I checked and it was 10 days. She said Since I made it 10 days and only needed to wait it 7 days I might as well quit sucking my thumb forever. She asked if we could count the days that she quits because she noticed me counting my days. Us counting days together was her motivator. We no longer count the days of her quitting sucking because the thumb sucking habit is pretty much gone forever now. Before all this she wanted to quit when I quit but couldnt and used to say, How can I quit sucking my thumb when it is attached to my hand and is right with me all the time. I cant take it off my hand and put it somewhere away from me. She was refering to the fact that I could just not buy cigs or walk away from them and she couldn't and had to carry hers with her at all times. Denisey, That is great stuff! Ok. here's what you do... on her wedding day, when everyone is toasting... pull this story out about how she helped to save your life (supported your quit).. in your darkest hour she was there for you. If that doesn't bring out the hugs and tears, nothing will! I'm very proud of you and your continuing efforts. Others with many fewer obstacles have stumbled before 6 days. Keep up the great quit!
