Members, Please keep in mind you should consult your pharmacist or doctor before taking any supplements. This will assure they do not conflict with any current medications you are taking, nor will it aggravate any current medical condition you may have. HI Cincere ! I just went to my doctor today for a checkup and I asked him how to speed up my metabolism. He suggested eating protein and less carbs. I got on line and researched it.. trying to figure out what had happened to me since quitting.. and why I now have to really watch my weigh. I found that METABOLISM is actually the rate at which food is digested. The longer it takes to digest a food the more the metabolism increases. This means uncooked and natural foods. Processed foods digest so easily that they actally lower your metabolism. Anything that takes a long time to digest will speed up your metabolism. Proteins take longer to digest. Fruits and vegetables, especially oranges and apples. NO bananas ! Whole wheat anything and beans and soy are good. Do not skip breakfast ! Not eating until midmorning actully lowers your metabolism. Some protein, some fat and some dairy for breakfast. Eat something every 2-3 hours and do not starve yourself (5 hrs not eating). Some other information from various websites that I collected earlier: Super fast fat-burning foods : Apples Porridge Oats and oat cakes Lentils Pumpernickel bread Oranges Wholemeal spaghetti Skimmed milk Chick peas Soya beans Kidney beans Cottage cheese Lean roast chicken Almonds Sunflower seeds Canned tuna Tofu Citrus Fruits Citrus fruits like, oranges, grapefruit, tangerines, lemons, and limes contain high concentrations of Vitamin C (this is also called ascorbic acid). This Vitamin C has a fat burning quality. Vitamin C reduces the effectiveness of fat. It reduces its content and can liquefy or dilute fat. By diluting the fat, it makes it less effective, and easier to flush out of your system. Vitamin C also works on cholesterol deposits. Vitamin C can help burn out the cholesterol, hence, making it difficult for cholesterol deposits to form in blood vessels. By adding Citrus Fruits to your daily diet, try every meal and also a snack, you will great increase your metabolism, increase your ability to get rid of fat, and also help you to control your cholesterol levels. Soybeans Soybeans contain lecithin, this chemical will shield your cells from accumulating fat. This chemical prevents, like a shield, fat from forming on your

Hi Christine. Thanks for the information. If we put as much effort into losing/maintaining weight as we put into our quits, we will succeed. We have the power. :)

Hi fellow food addicts. I just came across this and thought it might help. 5 ways to naturally rev up your metabolic engine *Note: For the safest ways to modify your diet and increase your physical activity, discuss your weight-loss plans with your doctor. 1. Stop eating by 7 p.m. or two to three hours before bedtime. Giving your body a "mini fast and cleanse" and not stuffing yourself at night allows your digestive juices to burn excess waste material, thereby promoting weight loss and digestion. By doing this step and this step alone, you will notice the pounds come off. 2. Increase caloric expenditure by exercising. Pick your favorite activity and as the Nike slogan states, "Just do it!" If you are at a metabolic standstill, you need to start moving and burning more to rev up your metabolic engine. Increasing your muscle mass by weight training (free weights, elastic bands etc.) also increases your resting metabolic rate (RMR). 3. Increase your protein consumption for an eight-week period. By doing so, you will release more of the hormone glucagon (insulin's opposite) which facilitates fat loss. This doesn't mean you should exclude carbohydrates. On the contrary, your body will need to eat low-glycemic-index carbohydrates in the form of vegetables, most fruits and a modest amount of whole grains. 4. Drink three cups of green tea daily. Green tea increases metabolic rate and speeds up fat oxidation. Compounds in green tea speed up the rate at which calories are burned and therefore increase overall energy expenditure leading to weight loss. 5. Supplement with 200 mcg of chromium daily. Chromium is a trace mineral found in certain types of food such as brewer's yeast. Research has shown that chromium -- in combination with a healthy diet and exercise -- can suppress appetite, help insulin function, balance blood sugar levels and control cravings. It's important to remember that your metabolic rate is not set in stone. By implementing the steps above, you can noticeably increase your calorie-burning rate, build muscle and lose weight :)
