bump. I see A LOT of "slipping" happening. Please, if you've slipped or relapsed, do NOT give up on yourself! Learn from your mistakes and then get on with the quit! There's no shame in screwing up - as long as we learn from it and get back to the quits! So please, if you've slipped, don't give up! Crave the Quit! Thanks for the bump BFS! I couldn't agree with you more. Nobody is perfect. We all make mistakes. What's important is that we learn from these mistakes and continue practicing this new skill. Smoking has been a part of your life for years. This habit does not undo itself overnight. Only practice makes perfect. Keep persevering! Danielle ______________________ The SSC Support Team

BFS, Love this post. I will definately be taking some of it with me. I particularly like the ------------------------------------------------------------------- "Thomas Edison said, Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up. " ------------------------------------------------------------------- Who really knows if the last slip was the last one or not. If we don't get up and brush oursdelves off and try again we could miss the right time for our final and successful quit. Just Say N.O.P.E. Oscar Wilde said, Experience is simply the name we give our mistakes. I believe this to be true. We make mistakes, we learn from them, and thats where we get our experiences. Where would we be if we never made any mistakes at all? I dont think we would have a chance to grow as human beings if we were infallible. Mistakes teach us compassion, understanding, humility and they bring us back down to earth. John Wooden said, It's what you learn after you know it all that counts. I personally have learned so much from trying, failing and trying again. Now I dont recommend slipping, of course, but if you do, I hope you find the strength within yourself to try again. As a society, we are so afraid to fail. Why is that? Why do people give up when out of failure comes the most success? Thomas Edison said, Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up. If you fall down, do you lay there on the ground? Of course not! Right now, its February. We all know what happens at the gyms in February membership rates fall. Weve seen that same thing happen here not nearly as many posts as we had at the beginning of the year. Weve lost several quitters and this really saddens me. Many have gone back to a lifetime of addiction. Some will try again many may not. This is such a shame. If we try, fail and never try again, what have we gained? Nothing. James Havelock Ellis said, It is on our failures that we base a new and different and better success. Success is what we view it to be. Russell Lowell said, Mishaps are like knives that either serve us or cut us, as we grasp them by the blade or the handle. We can use our mistakes as tools, or we can bleed to death because of them. Its a choice. So what do you do if you slip? Albert Einstein said, Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. If you slip, its necessary to find out why and figure out a way to not do that again. Learn from your mistakes. Make a plan for the future. Then, forgive yourself and move on. That last ones the hardest for me, but its necessary in order to move forward. It is common sense to take a method and try it. If it fails, admit it frankly and try an

Wow, Pam. Another great post. :) It is all so true. As long as we keep trying we have not failed. But there is a bit of a restriction to that idea: we have to learn from our attempts and adjust out attempts in the process. Otherwise we aren't really trying, just stuck in a loop like a broken record. Concerning the gym, it's been frustrating lately because all the treadmills and stationary bikes are in use. I'm selfishly looking forward to the crowd thinning a bit so I don't have to wait. Keep up the good work, Pam. This is great! :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 260 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,215 Amount Saved: $988 Life Gained: Days: 48 Hrs: 14 Mins: 46 Seconds: 13

Good post, thanks. I for one am happy I made the final leap to quit and suceeded this time. I have learned so much and accomplished so much in the last 9 months. I quit smoking, lost weight and I now exercise and enjoy doing it. I have a new job that I never would have applied for before when I smoked. I have learned so much about myself and am happy to say I have grown in mind but not body. :p Its amazing how quitting smoking gives you the courage to try things you wouldnt have before and it sure makes you proud of yourself. I tried many times to quit, but with the help of the patches and this wonderful site I have quit.
The best thing about the future is that it only comes one day at a time.
I will try to remember that quote and quit worrying about tomorrow. ( I only said I would try, I am not promising anything since I am the worlds worst worrier) ;p My Milage: My Quit Date: 4/21/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 292 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 5,853 Amount Saved: $2190 Life Gained: Days: 38 Hrs: 6 Mins: 39 Seconds: 8
